Contour line on the map.

Post by Maximghost »

On topographic maps, horizontals (maybe the autotranslator will pick up the wrong word - I mean the lines indicating the elevations on the maps) quite accurately convey an understanding of the height. mb in one of the updates will add them to the battlefield? So far, from what I saw on YouTube, with the understanding of the height in the game is a big problem.

My exact thinking. Maybe in the options a setting to turn it on/off.

There's an option for simple contour lines.

Thanks for corrections. I guessed that different terms were used in Russian and English, but I wouldn’t have the exact English term.

Do these contour lines show in the closest magnifications? As I understand it, the comment has been that a sense of height disappears as you zoom in?

They're not shown in the 'zoomed-in' mode, when you see the terrain textures. It's possible to disable that mode, for example by using this alternate 'paper map' style. The contour lines are currently quite pixelated when zooming in, because they're just a single image covering the map, not vectors. We're not sure how they should be improved in the future.

I have an idea, but first I need to get my hands on the game [:D]

I really like the paper map style. That's a switch - or you swap out files to get it? Looking forward to tomorrow!

The second button below the minimap toggles between the standard and paper map modes.

If you figure out how to combine the contour lines with the battlefield (standard vision mode) it will be very cool.
Also on the sleds on these lines are usually written elevations, with the direction of the top of the figure in the direction of increasing the height, so as not to confuse the hill with a ravine, I hope you add it.

One more question, I will not create a separate topic for him.
And why when playing for the USSR (or GDR, Poland) their units turn blue? It would be logical that their badges were always red.

We use NATO standard, so friendly units are always blue and hostiles are always red. (for Soviets it was opposite, for example)

That also solve issues like when playing Soviet vs. Soviet, or neutral nations like Finland.

I was wondering the same thing. While I understand using the NATO standard, can it be switched or modded?

The icon image files can be changed, but currently the game engine controls the colors.

+1 for improving the contour lines on the main battle map. Or finding a better way to represent height on the main battle map.
The game is already fantastic but this would be the icing on the cake)

Perhaps you should try to make terrain shading more visible. Open data\graphics\mapcolors1.xml (or mapcolors2.xml if you're using the 'paper map'). There you'll find the 'hillShadeZoomedOut' attribute. Change the value to, let's say, '2.0' or more.
