questions

Post by budd »

Couple of " how to" questions.

once i unload infantry from their transport, how do i give them orders without having a larger command delay? Seems like the HQ flag stays with the vehicles, shouldn't the dismounted infantry have a command flag also once unloaded? To get the smallest command delay looks like you have to give orders to the whole group thru the HQ flag on the vehicles but what if you want to leave the vehicles behind and advance thru woods or a town with just the foot troops.

Also how do you group select besides left click and hold? it's hard to select what you want by dragging a box sometimes and there doesn't seem to be an option to control click to select units to have a group.

You can detach the vehicles. For example, order them to stop (hotkey 'backspace'). Then the dismounts have the flag.

Select a group of units. Hold down ‘control’ and press a 1-9 number key to create a ‘quick-group’.
Press the number twice to move the screen to the quick-group.

I gave orders to unload, so their already unloaded but have no flag, can see no way to avoid a larger command delay.

But how to select the units? The infantry are mixed in with the vehicles so drawing a box won't work, is there a control or shift click select option?

Screen shot included. Trying to order the infantry forward without the vehicles, without a big delay. Selecting just the infantry with drawing a box is problematic.

There can be only one flag per formation. If you detach the vehicles then the dismounts have the flag.

Shift+click works for selecting the infantry units. Then you can use control+number to create a 'quick-group', like I described above.

However, if you just want to control the infantry as a platoon without the vehicles, then detach the vehicles and command the infantry by using the flag.

I think he's saying to give each of the individual transports some order (doesn't matter which) in order to detach them from the platoon. Then you will have an all-infantry platoon that you can command with no order delay penalty.

Of course, you will get a penalty when ordering the transports around, but hopefully that's acceptable since they are just APCs with a single MG each.

Maybe there could be an option to split mechanized formations into separate transport and passenger formations, but I think there should be some more discussion about whether or not that would be worth adding.
