AI Waypoints

Post by actrade »

I'm having a heck of a time moving formations in the 3rd mission (who will stop the rain) across the river. There are two bridges, but two of my platoons have individual units that are just driving where ever they please. I've tried using several waypoints to steer them over the bridges, but to no avail. By the time I finally get everyone over the bridges, I've lost the initiative. Is there a more intuitive way to set waypoints and have your units follow?

Second question: when setting up before the first move, why can't I assign a formation BEFORE I start the game. Seems that I can only set the formation after I hit start.

You can try using the March formation by clicking the formation button on the bottom left

That worked better, certainly not perfect, but at least they weren't going to the wrong bridge and circling all the way back. I wonder why the developer didn't allow formation choice before starting? Not a biggie, but have to start the game, freeze, then set formation. That could be a real issue if you chose to play it using the turn-based function.

Select formation->march and place the formation waypoints along the road you want to follow. The 'march' formation is optimized for road movement, and should be used in bottlenecks such as bridges.

This is by scenario design. The scenario designer can 'lock' the formations so they cannot be moved. I think all the current pre-made scenarios have locked formations.

I've tried moving them over a formation at a time...still get wayward units. Going to pass on that mission I guess.

Remember that currently the game has the one-unit-per-map-cell limitation, so units cannot travel through each other. This will hopefully be improved in the game patches.

Good to know. Otherwise, moving as formations through bottlenecks is going to be a bitch lol.
