Damage Descriptions

Post by ctid98 »

Afternoon all,

Could somebody explain to mean the effects of the various types of damage reported on ships during naval and air attacks? When a weapon or turret is destroyed its fairly obvious as to what it means, but what about things like severe casualties below decks, ammo storage hit, or internal explosions???

Do these things actually have meaning to how a ship operates after they've been reported or is it just to spice up the damage reports???

Thanks

With the exception of AMMO or FUEL explosions when carriers are struck, i believe (from long playing experiences) that the rest of the "messages" are essentially there just for dramatic effect. After all, not EVERY shell or bomb hit is going to cause massive damage.

I remember being very confused by these msgs when i first got the game. At first i thought i was seeing "critical hits" right off the bat, but then after the 20th msg I realized that couldn't be the case

After the third Critical Hit on a DD, there wouldn't be much left to shoot at...;)

I had a mission where P-39s were strafing some Japanese transports. Most of the hits would punch through, but no message afterwards. On one, however, I did get the "engine damage" message. I figure some of them have real meaning.

My feeling, no real hard evidence) is that the messages give you an indication of how 'good' the hit was and maybe what kind of damage is being inflicted. 'Engine damage' should be a massive hit on SYS, 'fuel' and 'ammo' explosions should give lots of SYS and FLT damage with huge fire damage. Would 'tower armor penetration' have a large percentage chance of killing the Captain?
