Why Buy Strategic Command Now?

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Why Buy Strategic Command Now?

Even with the Holiday Sale price why should I buy Strategic Command WWII War In Europe when the World at War version will be available next year.

While the engine and general rules are similar.
They play as two very different games.
SC WiE is worthy of any serious wargamer's library.

The impression I got of World at War is that it is basically an expansion of Strat Comm War in Europe to the Pacific theater. Maybe Matrix Games should offer a discount to owners of War in Europe if they purchase World at War when it becomes available.

I had the original Strategic Command games and it was the same progression, the war in Europe first and then World War II with both theaters. The weakest part of the game engine is how it handles naval warfare and considering that control of the sea in the Pacific theater was the key to victory I think this will have to be improved.

As an old boardgamer dating back to the days of Avalon Hill I look at Strategic Command as a "beer and pretzels" wargame that is fun and easy to play but certainly not what you would call grognard level.

Well as an old Avalon Hill/SPI board gamer (and I continue board games also) I would agree that SC is not up to Matrix's World in Flames or SPIs WitE or WitW.
Never the less, I love SC, although I have had little luck in the tournament.

I cann't divulge more, but to say I stand by my statement above that the games play as two different games. Other current players do you agree with me?

I think its well worth the $19. If you like WW2 strategy games its one of the best. I like both the Europe & Global games (older versions) but the Europe game is better. Naval & amphib warfare both still need some work which hopefully we'll see in the new global game.

To be honest, my preference would have been for a stand-alone Pacific theatre only...but I will still buy this when it comes out.

I can see from some of the screenshots, particularly the one of Libya and Egypt shown below, that the map of the European theatre has been reduced somewhat, so this part of the game will definitely play out a little differently.

It is a fabulous game and you will still get many hours of entertainment from it before the World at War production is available.

I so love the High res counter mod and board game map mod for this game that I'm sticking with it unless and until those mods become available for the new game.
