How to set a nation to another side?

Post by edwardx »

Hello I am thinking of creating a hypothetical (or historical if i can find enough details on a real one) scenario depicting a British vs Israeli skirmish in 1948 and can't figure out how to set Israel to side B for the scenario.
The CSEEHowToo pdf guide alludes to this being done through the Scenario.Lua on page 8 but does not seem to go into details anywhere else on the subject. I decided to check existing scenarios to see how they do it but after having checked numerous scenarios such as Black September Intruders and the various Egyptian-Libyan War scenarios i have found no mentions to anything of the sort within the files. I have tried searching the forum but nothing has came up that clearly covers the subject. Can someone please point me in the right direction or give me an example of the code and where to put it?

Hope this is the correct Subfourm.

Hi Ed,

Welcome to the CSME Forum![;)]

You can actually do this in the scenario editor. I'm assuming also that maybe you haven't made a scenario before so I'll walk you through it a little.

If you have your map and order of battle file you can make a new scenario!
When you click on the editor the existing window of scenarios comes up. If you cancel in that window a new window with the map files will come up, click on one map file hit Ok. Then
a window with the order of battle files will come up, click on one oob file then hit OK.
Now you have a new scenario in the editor that hasn't been saved yet.

The next screen seen will be your header screen
for the new scenario. Hit OK we can come back to that later. The next screen will be conditions hit OK we can change the weather conditions later
if you like. The third and final screen will be the description. You can add your name to the author slot and then put a date in.

Make sure the date is in this format day month, year example 5 June, 1967.

The description you can leave blank for now until your ready to write. You can always come back to it.

When you click OK in the description box, the box will close and the map will move to the upper left corner.

Now here is where we change sides.

On the top menu bar click scenario then click sides. On the right side box you'll see under side A: France, UK, Pro West and Israel. Highlight Israeli,
then click on the middle box marked [>> Side B]. It will move Israel to the side B box. The UK and Israel will now be combatants in the scenario you make.

You can start placing units on the map and make sure you save the scenario from time to time. Use a unique file name. Hope this helps!

Any other questions fire away. Always happy to help!

Cheers!

Ah thank you for the responses. [&o] I have played around with Scenario creation a bit but i am still learning.

While i have your attention. I have issues changing the Turns number in the Header dialogue from the default '1-30[d]' to anything else for example '1-12[d]' as when i do i get hit with a 'Invalid Turn Value(s)' response bouncing me back to the Header. I have had the same thing when i attempted to make a scenario in Westfront so i don't think its a bug. I have consulted the Manuel and i can't see where i am going wrong. I probably have 100 other questions but that is the only one that comes to mind.

You have to make sure that the visibility and the turn numbers are the same.

If not, it will flag and error.
