GC 41- Soviets - Partisans
Hi, I have two questions about playing Soviets in the GC41.
1) how do I activate partisans units ?
2) How do I activate the Transcaucasian army ?
thanks

1. Stack your VVS airbases with bombers/transports on Night Missions....they will get supplied but you have no control over what they do.
If your opponent has garrisoned captured cities then most partisans seem to sit around the camp fire in the marsh drinking vodka...
2. Never. With my cynical hat on it is just there to raise the Captured Russian numbers.

Molotov : This we did not deserve.
Foch : This is not peace. This is a 20 year armistice.

Back to the partisans, how do I know what they did (ie drank vodka or blew railtracks ?)

Axis will see any tracks blown as red battle reports on the map - just like other battle results. You can also see them listed under partisan in the battle tabs of the commanders report. If they are not there, they drank vodka!

Do you mean they are listed in the CR of the soviet player or Axis player ? Because I couldn't find them easily (I'm playing as Soviet)...ORIGINAL: Armatrading

Here is what it looks like from the Axis side. I was pretty certain you did see them in CR on the Soviet side from memory. But at least Soviet battles bring displayed in the Axis CR normally do not carry over to the next Soviet turn. So I will need to look through some old files. This is from so long ago and I know patches have changed the display of Soviet battle reports since that it could have been changed.

how much garrison do you use to deter partisan? I tend to just build fortified zones in each city i've captured. not many units to man the front and everybody is needed on the front line; Sec divisions are mostly used to clean up pockets.

To fully garrison a city you need just over 1800 security (2000/1.1 to be exact) or 2000 other troops. Light urban double that, heavy urban triple. Fully garrison no longer means no partisans completely anymore after one patch - but if not close to fully garrisoned you will be seeing those partisans mushroom.

RE: GC 41- Soviets - Partisans
thanks. I'll try to put some more garrisons and see if I get less partisans.
RE: GC 41- Soviets - Partisans
I tend to fully garrison as at least historically that does represent the commitments the Axis usually had to make to the rear areas. Whether it is really worth all those troops on a strict cost-benefit analysis is hard to say - but it feels historically right.

Thanks ! No I didn't see them last time I checked (so maybe they were drinking vodka) but will have another look when I receive my turn (it's PBEM)ORIGINAL: Telemecus

And don't forget you can put level bombers or transports set to night missions in DBAD airbases as well and they will carry out partisan supply drops from there. This will improve the partisan air supply situation.

How can you tell which squadron and from which airbase flew the partisan supply mission?ORIGINAL: GamesaurusRex

You can't if FOG is on. There's no graphical air mission lines and no info on miles flown just the battle reports and stuff in the event log like this.
16.3.5.1. Partisan Air Resupply
The computer will automatically conduct night air transport missions to drop supply to Soviet partisan units during the Soviet logistics phase at the start of the Soviet turn. These missions are conducted by Soviet transport air group units (17.1) and are hidden if FOW is on. Partisan supply drops are recorded in the Logistics Phase Event Log (5.4.12). Note that Air group units conducting partisan resupply are required to have night mission mode enabled (16.1.6).
PARTISANS
13th Partisan Battalion formed at 98,65 from the people of Orel
14th Partisan Battalion formed at 75,83 from the people of Zhitomir
16th Partisan Battalion formed at 97,102 from the people of Zaporozhye
38 partisan squads recruited from cities (342 men)
The remnants of 3rd Partisan Battalion joined 30th Partisan Battalion
The remnants of 4th Partisan Battalion joined 41st Partisan Battalion
The remnants of 7th Partisan Battalion joined 75th Partisan Battalion
The remnants of 21st Partisan Battalion joined 8th Partisan Battalion
The remnants of 19th Partisan Battalion joined 10th Partisan Battalion
The remnants of 65th Partisan Battalion joined 64th Partisan Battalion
163 partisan squads recruited from the countryside (1467 men)
2 partisan units resupplied from VVS airbases
4 squads airdropped to partisan units from VVS airbases (44 men)
11 partisan units resupplied from non-VVS airbases
18 squads airdropped to partisan units from non-VVS airbases (198 men)
Remember partisans do nothing while in the PC state. E.g. Cadres. Once they have enough men they change to just P status when they start. See section 17 for partisan and garrisons

RE: GC 41- Soviets - Partisans
But if you read the turn event log report, even with fog on you will see a line that says something like " X number of partisan supply drops from bases other than VVS" when it happens... I forget the exact wording.

RE: GC 41- Soviets - Partisans
To some extent you can work out what happened by backward induction. if you have one air group using that starts the turn with fatigue and losses, and you see one partisan supply report that includes that number of aircraft in range, you can take a good guess which airgroup did it. Not always, but at least I used to find you could get a fairly good idea of who did what.
