question about soviet merging

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

question about soviet merging

Post by Arstavidios »

I've been absent from the game for a few years looks like there ha ve been a number of changes in merging - building soviet units.

From what i remember.
if you build two brigades together you get a division no AP cost. both brigades disappear replaced by a division.

Infantry corps: two divisions and a brigade or three divisions. 20 AP in 1942 then 10 from 1943

Cavalry corps : three divisions , 5AP
Armour 3 arm brigades 10 AP

destroyed units up to turn 17? infantry - mot come back as infantry for free tank come back back as tank brigades the rest is lost. after turn 17? units don't come back you have to buy them again.

Merge function, you disband one unit into an other the disbanded unit is lost.

Looks like quite a lot of things have changed here. Can someone qive me an update?

There's a newly revised manual that you can find on the forums that has the answers to many of your questions.
Combining USSR brigades into divisions is free but only available from May 1942.
Rifle Corps cost 10 AP, first available turn 51, June 1942.
Cavalry Corps are available turn 25, December 1941
Tank Corps cost 20, available turn 42, April 1942
Destroyed units (including units that merge into others) don't stop coming back (for both sides, Germans immediately and USSR after a variable number of turns). After turn 17, the USSR will be charged the number of AP that it would cost to build a new unit of that type. Be sure to spend all your AP every turn. As you say, all infantry comes back as rifle divs, tank units come back as brigades, cav comes back, and mountain/naval infantry don't come back, so be careful.
Merging also costs some AP unless you do it after you spent all your AP, so wait until the end of your turn to do any merges.

Rifle corps are 20AP until 1943.

You've just pointed out an error in the new manual. It got missed as did the cost for creating a new rifle division.

Thanks
