Historically, part of the USN torpedo problems was malfunctioning gyros. Perhaps the dud malus in the game includes misses from that issue. Don't fire your sub commanders with good stats yet!

Oh heck, I just put in comments like that for fun. I leave commanders with good stats alone.

What do you think about Burma? You think the Empire will try something there? As part of my 'avoid auto-vic' vigilance I keep in mind a grab for major VP via an India adventure. A preliminary advance across the Burma-India frontier to tie up major Allied combat units there might be used to weaken defenses elsewhere.

Don't know anything about your opponent's tendencies toward aggression or caution, so I really have no clue. My own assessment is that it is too late in the game to start an adventure in India. You will have some good British/CW units there by now, including better tanks than the IJA has. Add to that Indian units which have had time to fill out and develop their experience and morale.

He's both aggressive and cautious, so how to figure out which way he will go at a given time! Strategically he leans toward believing that most IJ players over-expand and make themselves vulnerable. Otherwise he's pretty aggressive, but not foolishly so or to the sacrifice of strategy.

My mapping of that onto the auto-vic question comes down to looking for aggressive moves the Allies would be hard pressed to stop/blunt in the short term and which would (at least in aggregate) give him auto-victory. In the case of India I'm wary of weakening key, high VP spots while in auto-vic range.

I think you are quite correct. You two seem to play games that are significantly embedded with misdirection [8D]

He has the last hex in Burma - but not Chittatong / Cox's Bazar (??!!)

He is "near or in the Chunking Plain" but taking heavy losses to clean up China

He is "near or in Sian" but has a way to go.

He is "supporting Darwin and North Central Australia" with air cover and additional resources to delay you and scatter critical build up i.e. in the Solomon's, Gilberts, Marshall's etc.

--

A conservative Japanese player may not attempt an India invasion with all that on the go - spending precious supplies, troops, and resources building up consecutive lines of interlocking defense for the inevitable Allied counter attack (1943+)

An aggressive Empire player - not so much.

I cannot recall - have not seen a Burma map recently from you - any indications of an Indian winter holiday ?

Port Blair ? An important key stone base with 'range' for air cover.

Massed troops Akylab ? Lots of shipping Akylab or Cox Bazar ? Even if you cannot recon it perfectly are the numbers of ships there ?

Have you forayed with the Royal Navy recently to raid along the Burmese or Thai coast ?

If you have time I would love a screen shot and your analysis

What do you think about Burma? You think the Empire will try something there? As part of my 'avoid auto-vic' vigilance I keep in mind a grab for major VP via an India adventure. A preliminary advance across the Burma-India frontier to tie up major Allied combat units there might be used to weaken defenses elsewhere.

In a scenario 2 style game, Japan can muster around 16 free divisions now and 20 by Jan...so pretty much they can do anything once.

NW Australia. Our armor needs to replenish losses. There is an Inf Div and an Inf Rgt at Wyndham, and an Inf Div at Darwin plus remnants (or a rebuilt) armoured unit.

Interesting. Did that include the troop losses of a large portion of the Chinese Army?

Screen pics posted.

Akyab I've had under continuous recon and it has an infantry regiment. Cox's Bazar is Allied but with civil administration only. The RN is guarding against a big move and would be spent on that. Port Blair is long Imperial.

I have not diverted anything I would use in the Marshall's or Gilbert's for Australia. The 4EB really can't be based there for some time both because of the need for base building and the greater need for defense against strong Imperial forces.

I'm pretty sure Walter has it in mind to make the interlocking defenses as strong as possible this game, to the detriment of more forward areas where necessary.
