Post by tracer »

Can someone help me translate some of these 'Legend' entries? They are from an online map I found; the ones I could really use would be those related to windmills (canals, low elevation, dikes, dams, etc).

http://home.cfl.rr.com/lagoon/upload/legend.gif

Please post, PM or e-mail...whichever is easiest.

dank u ;)

That's easy; just say "Heineken" ;) :D

BIG thanks Toontje; in the future I'll use the translator Harry mentioned so you don't get carpal tunnel syndrome! :D

No prob. Dunno if a translator is good in this, since some words are quite uncommonly used.

btw, don't ask for heineken in the netherlands, it's quite different from the green export bottles. My experience was even a bad headache withing 2 hr of drinking it. Opinions of other dutch people may deviate.

Mine sure as hell does :D

After two, nearly three, years of Canada I was nearly crying to get my hands ona h homegrown Heineken again.

Beer is a bit of a perpetual state of war here though. I am sure there is someone out there that likes.-hork- ..Grolsch

Amazing how similar Dutch is to Swedish after all. Or the other way around. :)

"perron" is "perrong" in Swedish, so that'd make

laadperron = cargo platform (for trains/trucks)

Hmm, Grolsch:)
Heineken, export or not, is...well, like having sex in a kajak.

Bel, ever met a Frysian? You'd have less trouble understanding him than the average dutch person would. Still a lot of viking bits floating around in the gene pool up there, I guess.
I've done this a thousand times and never been hurt.

Hahah I guess. :) With a bit of Swedish, Danish, German and English knowledge, Dutch is possible to understand. At least in reading....pronounciation makes things a bit more difficult.

German is enough. Most dutch people understand german if spoken slowly, and the other way around.

btw, perron is decendant from french if I'm not mistaken. Anyway the best beer aside from upper yeasting (iirc) brews is Hertog Jan.

I like the Gulden Draak, but I can't remember if it's Dutch or Belgian. Good beers are usually Belgian... :o :p

Ooh, forgot all about Hertog Jan. very close second, imo.

Gulden draak (golden dragon) is Belgian and very, very tasty indeed. Only downside is, after gliding down your throat like smooth liquid velvet, it sinks all the way down to your legs.
Sneaky stuff, it gets you thunk faster than you drink:D

Another good one, altrough I'm not sure if it's a special brew or not:

Kanon (boem)

Hits you like round shot from an 8 pounder.

You know, if there's going to be a european SPWAW-con, we could plan a visit to one or a couple breweries.
Looks like there's plenty of interest:)
