Spartan version Info. required

I note that the version number for Spartan is quoted as 1.017 in the product informtion.

Is this just in respect of the Vista DirectX dll, or have some other adjustments to the original game been made ?

And if the latter, what are they, and can they be obtained for a store bought version of the game ?

OK - so I am going to answer ( in part ) my own question :-

After a little further investigation, I have traced a patch 1.017 for the Just Play UK version of Spartan ( on "The Patches Scrolls" website - it's just as well I knew about this website already... ).
It is somewhat larger in size ( 8003 KB compared to 174 KB ) than the Vista DirectX dll patch, so it indeed appears to be a different patch.

Can any one tell me what is actually on the 1.017 patch ?

Also, why do both Slitherine and Matrix not have this download available on their respective websites ?
Do they not care re people outside of the USA ?

Further, the downloads link provided for the Vista DirectX dll patch on both the Slitherine and Matrix websites is broken ( a patch no longer exists via either link ). I had to trace a link provided in a forum post on Matrix, in order to obtain that particular patch. I also note from the forums that this patch may also be required for Windows 7 O/S's too.

Why is the link not working ?

As I understand it the Spartan addon Gates of Troy brings it up to version 1.017 or beyond, however I do have this patch if you dont have Got, the patch corrects a lot of bugs with the original game but you dont need it if you install GOT...

Ok reread your initial post and will try again...
I have the Original Just Play version of Spartan(preordered from Just Play), this needs to be patched for various reasons mostly to do with the AIs managment, difficulty settings and some very minor bugs, but straight out of the box the game was generally pretty good... main problem AI tended to mass huge armys of weaker units and the difficulty rating was very very hard(for some), the patch corrected the managment problems in version 1009 and difficulty ratings in 1.017(so this version is actually easier to play then V1/V1009)if I remember right...

V1017 is the final version of the game hence this is the version available, you do not need to patch this if you have this version or if youve installed GOT to the original Just Play Spartan (that is my understandind at any rate)

never tried it on anything but Windows XP so cant really comment further but it seems like an easy fix using the Dll provided..

I have put this game on my Windows Vista Desktop PC and it works fine ( post the d3drm.dll patch ).

Shortly I will add it to My Windows 7 Laptop...

Spartan now added to my Win 7 Laptop. It appears to work fine here too.
