Comparisons... design intent

Post by jdkbph »

Hi folks. I'm trying to get a feel for how this game compares - not qualitatively, but from a design intent perspective - to other games of similar scale. For example, Grigsby's War in the Pacific AE and War in the East/West, or Paradox's Hearts of Iron 4?

If I'm a fan of the above (leaning more toward the Grigsby stuff than HoI) am I going to like this?

Just as an FYI, I'm also a fan of Slytherine's Panzer Corp, so games that don't necessarily require 2 days to plan and plot a turn are just fine, so long as they reasonably represent the historical realities they try to simulate.

Any thoughts and opinions would be much appreciated.

I think you will. I'd definitely try the SC3 European theatre game first. I think its on sale.

Perhaps this will help paint a better picture of the game play for you?

I like the Grigsby games & Panzer Corp. HOI not so much. I enjoy this game very much. It is the large grand scale strategy game vs PC being isolated battles. The Europe version is Grigsby East combined with West, not near as detailed but includes diplomacy & research decisions.

If you played the custom "'41 scenario" in PC this is somewhat similar but a much better & complex representation of a large scale game.

Good review - and although a little early, I’d like to second his comments at the end of the review - please make this a hattrick!
