starting a pbem questions

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

starting a pbem questions

Post by Arstavidios »

Hello, i'm starting a pbem.
Planning to play as the german.
I select the scenario and i'm asked to enter a new password for the soviet.
Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
How do you proceed with pbem? only played server games so far.

Started a first turn but it was just human vs human so not pbem game.
When i create a pbem ii'm asked to set up a soviet pasword and save the game and that's it.
How do I start as a german player?

looks like I figured it out.
I just close the window when it asks for the soviet password. Save the game, and then load it and it opens the turn for the german player.

The Soviet player needs to start the game and email it to you. He will choose the game options, create the game, input his password and send it to you.

Just curious, why would you prefer standard PBEM to server game ? Server seems much much easier and also more secured against cheating (no multiple reloads allowed or server master will punish you)

So why ? Any good reasons I don't see ?

Some do not have an always on internet connection. But also the server has lost games for people playing them that can be recovered or rolled back to old PBEM saves. Also occasionally by agreement players do want to retake a turn or do something they forgot. Some may see this as an argument for not having a PBEM, but for those who do at least want to have that option by agreement it does exist with PBEM. It is easier to write up AARs for old forgotten turns if you can reopen the saves you kept from then. And you can also use old saves to test ideas or scenarios after the game has finished.
