question re scenario / mods

Post by IBender »

In a video I watched, it was recommended to download ..a number of things from Grand Campaign Scenarios page. There is a huge amount of stuff there. Couple questions.

1. Am I right they go into the Scen folder, even for the beta verion?

2. in scenarios for Grand campaign. Is there perhaps just one that I might download that would cover the full war? I tend to not be interested in smaller campaigns and dont want the confusion or time spent doing things I wont want. If there is just one ....what would be the recommended download for grand campaign?

3. Lastly, am I right that what these scenario / mod / downloads are...are improvements to the AI for a given scenario?

Thank you

Hi, and welcome to The Game!
You mean this page right? tm.asp?m=3088504&mpage=1&key=
Those are different community-made mods and scenarios.

1. Yes, they go to the Scen folder.
2. I would recommend playing stock scenarios 1 or 2 before going into mods. Both go through the whole war, the difference is that the latter has slightly stronger Japan.
3. No, most of the mods have extensive tinkering with units but no AI work. Some of them even have AI removed or botched because they are intended to be played in human vs human matches only. The AI is only modified by AndyMac, you can pick his scenarios. But see point 2.

I, and most people here, would still recommend playing a quick small scenario or two before diving into the Grand Campaign. Like stock Coral Sea or Guadalcanal. The game is huge. Restarting-GC-because-I-just-learned-how-to-do-that-thing-right hiccups can go well into dozens[:)] They did for me.

Thanks a bunch that helped. I also think your right about smaller campaigns / scenarios as the more I look at things the more I realize I am in way over my head.

I appreciate the advice and suspect the future will see many most of mine with many questions.

Thanks again.
