[RESOLVED] CMANO has constant hangs and crashes.

CMANO was running fine and then it wasn't. I am not sure if it was a update or something.

Errors gives no number etc, just a hard hang. Task Manager does not report it as "not responding" and the CPU/RAM/Disk usage is normal, no apparent memory leak or it bottlenecking.

Sometimes clicking the taskbar icon for CMANO will force it to minimize, then bringing back up has fixed it. But this has less than a 25% success rate.

I tried validating game files (steam version + chains of war, also steam version) it said 2 failed to validate, and reaquired them. I relaunch and had to had kill with TM after about 5min, I then revalidated, and it was AGAIN missing 2 files.

I am playing on a mission I made that has less than 25 units at any given time. Mixture of sea units, air, land, and facilities. All amount cause the hang. I have even loaded a blank scenario with no units, and it will hang after a bit.
I am at the latest DB edition, but this issue occurs on all DBs I have tried to use up to this point.

I am not sure what is wrong. Google has not overly helped. I am now reinstalling CMANO + Chains of War (Steam Edition) and it is 4 Gbs in size, I thought I remembered it only being a few MBs

while a tablet does meet the min req regarding spec, there are a few issues with it,

one, it's a low powered device, meaning, it cuts the CPU and GPU down to save battery life

it has Intergrated Graphics, which again means it uses shared memory with the base memory, so less for windows and for the game, that's still ok as 8gb should be more than enough, but and it's a big but, Integrated Graphics also means it's using the CPU to do a job of a GPU, so a already slowed down low powered CPU being asked to do the job of 2, a CPU and dedicated card, which would have had on extra faster ram, so your on to a lower powered device which does what i can, net and doc use, not really and wasn't designed for gaming, while many simple games work fine with them, some don't.

as you haven't mentioned the model year etc, it's hard to know the full spec and what O/S it runs, but as long as it supports DirectX 9.0c (Suitable Direct-X version bundled with game) and also you have installed Windows Media Player and if on windows 10 also direct play, which is disabled by default on windows 10, the game should work.

if it doesn't you have more than likely a hardware issue,

easy option is to disable almost everything at start up and retry and see if something which is working or was working in the background stops a given process from running etc

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

once the report has been made, just attach it to your post as it's a Txt file which is then permitted to attach to the forum.

so my advice, as it's windows 10

limit the amount of programs pre loaded in start up,

what's needed by default is what i've shown above

steam and you're built in AV, and that's it,...




enable the legacy components which are disabled by default in windows 10, even if this game doesn't or may not use it, others will and does little to impact anything else

make sure windows media player is installed, by default on windows 10, it's not, it comes pre loaded, but not pre installed, you don't even have to use it or have it set to default, it just needs to be enabled / installed etc

as it's a tablet, same as a laptop, same rules apply

run off mains for the game when you can



and make sure it uses full power mode not no save the tree power saving mode, which needs to be disabled for game play, unless you wish to use 25% or less of the CPU / GPU combo power etc

which turns the I5 down to a I3, so and even slower CPU than it is already,...

performance issues aside, you need to use the max of what you have to not have system hangs on laptops and tablets and not let windows run it, or it can and does slow the whole lot down, when the game wishes for more of what you have, not less of it




as the drive in the tablet is a SDD, means it doesn't do so well and isn't needed, put a 0 in the sleep mode for it, as you don't want it to go to sleep at all while the game is running, as if it's not used at the time, eg the drive, windows can force it to sleep, so when the game wants to use it, it has to be woken up, then the game hangs waiting, same as screen saver and any power saving mode used when a game is running.

so now you will have free'ed up more resources and enabled the correct files and programs to have more power for the game

now all you need to do is run steam and the game as admin

Also besides running the game as admin, you might also have to run Steam client.

How to Run Steam as Administrator:

- Navigate your Steam installation file (By default, it is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam).
- Right-click the Steam executable.
- Follow the above steps to set it to Run as Administrator.
- Restart Steam.

and you may find the game hangs less if at all, good luck

that is anyone guess, could have been an update, but if it worked before ok and now it doesn't, most of my options won't do little in this regards, as mine are general tips and advice, hope the reinstall fixes what ever was broken and none of mine are needed then, good luck
