Unable To Purchase Desert War

Post by canuckgamer »

Yesterday I tried to purchase Desert War but even though it had the correct info on my current credit card an error message came up. I checked my purchases and it does not show up. I created a Help ticket and received an email this morning saying my issue had been updated but when I click on the link it takes me to a page where there is a long list of issues and I don't see my ticket number there.

I clicked on the ID number of my help request and it takes me to a blank page.

I am wondering if I should try and purchase it again although I am concerned that if I do and it is successful I will be charged for multiple purchases of Desert War. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear of your problem with ordering the game. If I were you, I would wait for Matrix/Slitherine to respond to your issues before trying to order again. From my experience, Matrix/Slitherine has excellent costumer support.

I just got an automated response email that said a new ticket had been generated, whatever that means.

I got a response from Matrix Help Desk saying I could go ahead and try my purchase again. I noticed that on the Desert War page it indicated that I needed Java 1.7 to install. Is that Java 1.7 or Java 7. The reason I ask is that I went to the Java website and the latest version is Java 8 but it wouldn't allow me to download because it said my 64 bit version of Firefox was not compatible. Looking at my installed programs it appears my version is Java 6. However if it is Java 7 that I need and not Java 1.7 I would have to wait until I get a new PC with Windows 10 as I currently have Windows 7.

The game comes with the Java plug-in you need to play the game.

Thanks, I went ahead and purchased it. During the installation process, a message came up saying I had an older version of Java which had to be uninstalled. It then installed the version of Java needed to play the game and I have been able to play the game. A lot different then any other computer wargame I have owned so lots to learn.

A little later there was a message from Java saying there was a newer version of Java and asked if I wanted to install it. I declined as I was afraid it would screw up my installation.

A couple of questions. I had previously saved a post about tactics and supply. I saw the following:

• Use Combined Arms. Shock-neutral (shock=0) units can attack with tank units and not degrade their Shock modifier. If you attack using shock-capable units with leg infantry, then you will dilute your Shock and have reduced odds.

Aren't leg infantry shock neutral?

In regards to supply, when you allocate supply from your stock to something like combat, is there a way to specify how much supply you want moved?

Two of my friends also bought so we are looking forward to some PBEM.

Thank you for your replies.

No, leg infantry is not shock neutral. Only motorized units are shock neutral.

No, it is all or nothing (Combat+ and/or Move+). The only way to play with the amount of supply expended is to make your supply choices at the lowest possible level. If you have limited supply and want to manage it/get the most from it, don't supply an entire corps or division--focus on allocating supplies only to the brigades/regiments that would benefit most given your scheme of maneuver.
