New to this game..

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

@Dorkey8 : Actually, I was responding to the OP... but since you asked, I would suggest you read through the revised rules carefully. Also spend some time reading through the player comments, AARs, and patch notes in the forum. Much about this game is not evident on the face of it. I've played it for five years now and still find myself discovering that parts of it do not work as I thought upon first glance. In the end, some things can only be learned by doing it. There is no teacher in this case equal to hands on experience.

Even after you have a decent grasp of the rules and game mechanics, if you want to play a good game versus a live opponent, you will face the issues of releative player experience and how to set the initial game parameters to achieve a balanced playing field. This is especially hard if the players are not familiar with each other's level of understanding of the game. Understanding and managing the details does provide in an edge. In the end and despite the sometimes cryptic mechanics, the game is entertaining and worth the effort. As I said to the OP, welcome to the addiction.
