A couple of questions before buying

Post by Edorf »

Thinking about getting TOAW IV but I`m just wondering if any of the WW2 scenarios in the game plays out on whole ETO\WTO maps? And how challenging is the AI in solitaire games? I`m fairly new to hex based strategy games so I`m pretty much a novice.

The scale of the game depends on the scenario you play and there's scenarios for almost any scale. From platoons on up. Huge scenarios that can take months to resolve and short ones. The computer is efficient with its moves usually and has variable difficulty settings and handicaps you can set depending on what you need. The game is most fun playing against other humans who can get a little creative with there strategic thinking. The computer doesn't do that well, but it is efficient most of the time. Kind of like a computer chess opponent. Its crunching numbers for the most part.
There is a bit of a learning curve.
You can read some of the AAR's to get an idea of how it plays out

I've played some scenarios against the AI and found it quite good. I did a brief AAR on a Barbarossa scenario, against the AI, in which the result was fairly historical.

There's the scenario Eastern Front 1941-1945 that has an AI/PO (programmed opponent) which looks very well designed.
