Nutty ideas for ToS:WS

Post by Voidhawk »

Nutty ideas that will probably never happen, but are fun to think about anyway:

A lunar battlefield! Just imagine the craziness that would result from duking it out on the surface of a moon, complete with low-gravity effects that would allow a titan with jump jets to "fly" around the battlefield for extended periods of time. Knock-down hits would not only drop a titan, but also throw him one hex back.

Mine layers and mine sweepers! Use a fast recon titan equipped with a mine layer to set traps for unwary enemies, or send your own recon equipped with a mine detector to locate and sweep enemy minefields! An entirely new support class is born! (and a real good reason for a little extra leg armor)

Torso-mounted cockpits! Go ahead, shoot my head off. See if I care. (I know I'm not the first to come up with this one ;))

Jocks who eject "airdrop" into a random hex, at a distance from the nearest enemy titan equal to the level of their life support system. They can then be targeted and fired upon by smaller-caliber weapons only (like machine guns) with a huge to-hit penalty. Tired of missing those kills? Try to gun 'em down after they eject. Want to save your own jock from this fate? You better hit the ground running.

Nutty I say! :D

We did discuss arenas with different gravity a year or so ago. It turned out to be *much* too complex. Just remembering a few of the ideas that were brought up, gravity change would affect range of projectile weapons (and flame thrower), speed of jump up and down, walking and running speeds, the amount of active time you get from charged up jets, the damage done by falling down, the effective radius of an exploding titan.

.... but I, too, would like to see an option for human players to be air-dropped.

The map editor has the basis for gravity affecting gameplay. It also supports human squad airdrops (mission and campaign only).

That's great! Thanks. I've just got my copy of WS (I'm in the UK); haven't started it up yet.

It might be interesting to have smoke or steam being generated as a permanent feature of particular hexes .. like fumaroles, with the effect drifting perhaps one hex downwind.

... and, linked to that (remember I've not looked at the map editor yet), mixed environments, with, say a small volcano in an otherwise standard environment.
