Range of bugs

Post by Raver508 »

Hi there,

I've been experiencing quite a range of bugs since I bought this game and was hoping for some help.

The worst one is long lag times when I attempt to move a unit (even on very small scenarios). The lag time is even longer if there's an interdiction strike.

I also find that I cant click on the big buttons on the main screen some times (the load button for instance). I have game crashes when I try to click on the combat losses button following combat, and the reports tab at the bottom right of the in-game screen is cut off.

Are these known issues?

Hi,

Sorry for the later reply. No these are not common issues at all. Could you let us know the hardware you are using (CPU, how much RAM, graphics card)?

Ah, laptop. Yes there have been problems for some people with that resolution on laptops. I was never involved in resolving this issue. You could do a search for 1366 x 768 and see what comes up. First open the Opart 4.ini file and edit these lines:

ChangeScreenResolution=N
ScreenY=600
ScreenX=800

Change the N to a Y and put your X, Y resolution in the proper locations. You can do that with notepad. See if that takes care of it.

If duct tape doesn't fix it then you are not using enough duct tape.

Thanks Lobster. I dug out one thread and fiddled around adding those lines to the .ini file but none of it seems to have helped. My issue of lags when moving units didnt really seem to match the issues in the thread I found (here):

tm.asp?m=4379197

and here:

tm.asp?m=4378389&mpage=1&key=resolution&#4378821

I think I had the same problem

Some of the "Factory defaults" are only for gamer computers
I think I had the same problem and it was solved by changing some values in
Menu "Play" - "Player options"
Second page (click on the right arrow (looks like a play -button) and then you get the second page.
"Animation movement timer" I changed it to 10
and
"Animation combat timer" to 25

It might be the issue.

Kind regards

Thanks John. Those settings were already at 10 and 25. I had a fiddle with them anyway, but it didnt seem to resolve the problem.

I think there's some kind of WIN10 OS issue with legacy games and I don't remember
what the fix was but if I was working on that case I would see if there wasn't some
option to run TOAW in compatability mode and chose XP as the OS to try and see what
happens.

But how come this version is a legacy game? Toaw 4 was released in late 2017. Is this version really just Toaw 3 with only a facelift? I would take it for granted that the engine was updated to be compatible with windows 10 when it was released. If this is true I`m puzzled.

Okay, forget about XP, try running it under WIN7 compatability mode. That's what I'm running and I've experienced no problems. Knock on wood. Cross your fingers behind your back. Throw some salt over your right shoulder. I've got to get back to my moves now.

I have Windows 10 and I've never had a problem running any version of TOAW. TOAW has never been remade. It has always had things added. TOAW4 was build on TOAW3. TOAW3 was built on TOAW ACOW (I think). TOAW ACOW was built on...you get the idea.

With so many combinations of hardware possible (millions and millions) it's no surprise that some games will run on most machines but not on some. Impossible to test against every possible combination.

I don't think XP is supported any longer. By anyone. There are places on the web where you can download it for free.
