Allied Convoys around the game

Post by traskott »

Hi everybody

I'm curious to know how the AFB organize the supply convoys. Not initially, there is a lot of good posts about this, but how can we can remade all the shipping lanes as the war progresses (1943-...). Frontline is more and more far from supply hubs, and usually there is no central good place to make it a new forward center til u got some zones of DEI or PHI.. Combined with the stream flow of Libertys, at the end I think we can lose efficiency, or got disorganized.

Any ideas?

Yes, when you move into the Central Pacific there are not many places that offer huge amounts of storage for hubs to form, especially when you have just captured them and they are not built up yet.
The big Allied advantage is the sheer numbers of ships that allow near-continuous supply of individual islands rather than having to bring in large convoys periodically (small ports make this an issue). So, if you find you can no longer work from a hub or two:

- Create large convoys at the US West Coast and in India with a few token escorts. Send them to the island furthest from the supply sources
- As the convoy gets closer to the action, bring in some more escorts/cruisers/CVE cover as required
- As you near each island you need to supply, split off a few ships to go there and unload
- Then choose whether to have the empty ships proceed independently back to the supply source or to reverse the process and have them collect together in one big convoy for the return.

I know of no method of keeping every ship moving efficiently in all cases - there will always be some waiting for other ships loading and unloading unless you do single-ship TFs. When forming a TF I do try to match ships by capacity and/or speed to maximize efficiency where I can.
No matter how bad a situation is, you can always make it worse. - Chris Hadfield : An Astronaut's Guide To Life On Earth
