Now, I have a confession to make. I did the whole darn turn, and in my rush to get it to Wargamr, didn't make an end of turn save.

My basic plan was to consolidate the surface at Buildr (Yamato, Mutsu, Kongos, Cruisers). Abandon Amchitka and all planes west except a fighter and search presence at Buildr and Attu.

KB steam north a few hexes and launch a port strike on all those ships at Umnak which include his AKE and Oiler fleet. All ships to flee my base and meet the KB.

Lay mines at Amchitka and deploy a zillion midgets.

But, as I was actually in the process of sending the turn to Wargamr, right before I hit send, I realized the fighter range on the kb was set wrong.

Now in hindsight, I say screw that chickens$!t plan. Where is the glory in that?

No, rather I say send everything in! One climatic catastrophic battle for the next year or so.

Surely, with the force he brought he plans on bombarding my bases and sticking around under the 200 fighters at Adak. Well, if we sortie everything there, that will force the deathstar out and about causing all sorts of chaos, reactions, cripples, escorts, etc.

The environment and force makeup has multiple small task force attack writ large all over it. Bad weather, short ranges, torpedoes, early war, slow battleships, night, close range.

Move the KB in for a strike, full power with everything. If the deathstar is outside of Adak the alpha sortie should go there. If it is inside Adak, then he is reduced CAP from the carriers.

This is it. I seldom say it, but yay, BANZAI!

I don't know how task forces prioritize attacking enemy task forces. Generally, players sort arrival time by speed, distance and low task force numbers.

What would happen if instead you set a patrol zone 1 hex away from the target with a generous engagement range, a great search, and let the local commanders pick the enemy task forces to engage?

Would that work?

Could that work?

Is is worth trying? Absolutely.

The turn is away, there is going to most likely be a few pixel widows tomorrow...however who will get the upper hand is awfully tough to tell.

Maybe, but if he's on a patrol as well they might pick you. I would go in to where they are but still keep a react in case they leave the area.

Well, I am trying it with three small Cruiser task forces, and perhaps some others too.

And thats it![:(] No KB strike. No Allied strikes. Sad faces here. The Yamato is two hexes away from the Deathstar, the KB well within striking distance...I will take a picture in a minute here.

Chin up. That is a big unwieldy Allied TF (who makes a big TF like that and expects them to do well, I don't get it).

When you pound it with the KB next turn it'll be worth the loss of Yamashiro.

I think the loss of the Yamashiro and the torp in the CV (which did light damage * less than 10) will embolden the Allied Fleet.

Looks like no turn today...

Got the turn...running now in real time...

I forget the day, just know that there will be plenty of blood and oil in the water in the north today!

Opening fight is a small squadron of 3 TB heading west into Adak...they find several pt boats and skirmish. The TB save their torpedoes...and continue west.

But just south of them the light cruiser finds a huge heavy cruiser force. If we can sneak out of this, they might be in for a surprise...

and she does, despite being surprised. Very short fight however.

The American heavy cruiser force seems to maintain cohesion, and fleeing the Yamato finds the Hyuga who still has some 36cm shells left and she makes good!

The destroyer manages to evade fire and escape...but the Americans fire quite a few shells.
