Filters on the diary

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Filters on the diary

Post by mazex »

Hi,

Love the game and looking forward to SS.

One gripe though - I cannot find a way to filter the types of messages written in the diary. Sure - I can filter to only show events for the selected unit, but what annoys me is the "spam" of "Unit xx arrives in hex xx". That really fills the log, and it's really not interesting for me at least.

Any way to disable it? Easy feature request for SS/patch otherwise ;)

Edit - while on that topic, it would be nice to have optional color coding in the diary of different types of events to quickly find if it was damaged, got a kill etc.

I agree. Finding somethign specific is hard unless you restrict the log to a specific unit. A filter would be a blessing.

Both filters and colors have been mentioned and we will see what we can do to help add more flexibility for Southern Storm. In particular, what would you like to have as filters?
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

Thanks - tried loading the game to check which event categories I would be most interested in filtering. Unfortunately I could not load a save from earlier today (but I can load old 2016 load files). Will not hijack this thread so I posted it in tech support:

The option to filter between your and the enemy's entries.

An option to filter out "move" entries, like the "unit X arrives in hex Y"

Filtering only combat entries.

Also about combat entries, an option to "compress" the weapons' attacks would be nice. "Unit X fires Y basic hit chance"'s spam gets enormous when there are a lot of fights.

At least making move/orders/combats color-coded would be nice. The log is very very hard to navigate right now.

Agree with StuccoFresco's list.

Apart from the movmement "spam", I think that compressing the combat statistics would be good in the "general" event log. Then there could be an option when selecting the actual unit to have "view detailed log" where all the data with probabilities etc could be - instead of the other way around to filter the main log.

Another thing I miss is that there is a log entry for "Attack order received for hex X - estimated time xx:xx" or something. That is very interesting information that gets "lost" in the log. It would also be nice to have a "current orders" entry on the actual unit where you can find that (or have I missed that it is there today?). That way you can see that it is actually sceduled for an assault that will (might) happen at hh:mm.
