Too many enemy fighters here, but cutting down on the number of destroyers the Americans can use here will pay dividends down the road hopefully. Plus sinking those lousy minelayers is good...no bombers lost.

How do either of you have any ships left?! If I took losses like that as the Japanese player, I'd have ulcers!

Yeah, it is a bloodbath. Don't worry your turn will come.

The first wave of artillery has arrived 1 hex west of Chungking...another group just as big a few days behind. One wonders how much damage they will inflict when they are finally in Chungking.

Attacking force 3162 troops, 226 guns, 90 vehicles, Assault Value = 2755
Defending force 277714 troops, 500 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 6177
Allied ground losses:
1058 casualties reported
Squads: 43 destroyed, 2 disabled

I dangled the bait, had two powerful surface fleets 1 hex away, set to patrol and engage, and they simply sat there. Detection was good at night I think, and the Allies come thru with a devastating bombardment.
Allied bombardments are almost always excellent, and here they sink every single ship in port. Once in a blue moon can I hit ships in port with a bombardment. Sigh.[:(]
Well done.[&o] I got too clever. Tomorrow is another day!
Nothing to worry about in this list other than the DD though.
I didn't like the react plan from the beginning, but wanted to see if you could make it work. I simply can't trust reactions even with aggressive commanders.
Getting the Phoenix and the DDs after more than makes up for letting that bombardment through. Besides, he has to have something positive to keep going. [;)]

The Allied player should have the ulcers. Lowpe has pretty low actual losses compared to the beatings he's putting down here.

Hyuga makes Paramushiro, where two AR's will help her to pump out all that counterflooding, before she heads back for the dockyards of Honshu.
Ise finishes her repairs in 2 days, and will will form up with a heavy cruiser and a few destroyers and head to the Great North.
Recent reinforcements to the northern task forces are:
2 CA/5DD SAG
CL Agano
CL Oi
Several unassigned destroyers
BB Fuso
Half dozen subs
Rboat force is headed here, slowly.

My observations are those big howitzers (everything over 100mm) really make a big difference against high forts.ORIGINAL: Lowpe

One wonders how much damage they will inflict when they are finally in Chungking.
240mm and 300mm have always shown up well for me.
Wish I had twice as many until I look at the supply usage, then I wish I had twice the economy to afford them. [:D]

They're worth every penny and supply point they use. Against late war Allies they're indispensable.
The only thing better are the Soviet versions!! OMG!

Mixed day on the ground, not the success we were looking for, but results are good..
Pick up a level 2 runway from the Americans, destroying two units with a landing barge invasion. Gives the perfect spot for LRCAP over Adak.
Disappointed the 3-1 didn't force the American to surrender at Sit, but forts were knocked down 3 levels.

Several pages back, I didn't see that you ever posted about the KB orders when it retired and caused it not to strike.
The reason for the retirement was almost certainly because of the engagement with the 2 Allied DMS/DM/DD (or whatever they were) earlier in the turn. Regardless of what you set the orders to (Remain on Station or Patrol Zone), CV TFs have a tendency to retire towards home port when they come into contact with a SCTF.

I didn't double check, but I think it most likely I left it on retirement, although you could be quite correct too. When in doubt I always ascribe problems like this to operator error.

RE: Lowpe (Japan) vs Wargamr (Allies)
I need to be careful here I don't fall to a super size CAP trap...otherwise the KB is the clear power house up here. Adak's runways are 56% damaged, but that is probably all repair and maintenance, the runways are certainly only lightly damaged.
Ulak gives a great two hex run into Adak, as well as other advantages.
The Allies are massing everything they have, and aren't afraid of throwing it all in to see what happens...so although it looks good at the moment, anything can happen. Those two modern fast battleships give me the willies, especially while the Yamato is now at Yoko undergoing some repairs.
