Supply for air units

I keep scanning through the manual but can't seem to find an explanation for how supply works for air units.

If they are not under an HQ but operate out of a supply 5 town they seem to have a supply of around 3.

Can someone confirm that their supply is different from land units?

They should still receive supply from resources, but they won't have anything more than that unless they are directly controlled by a friendly HQ.

Do you have an example where you've seen an air unit receive less supply than the strength value of the urban resource that it starts the turn occupying?
