Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #8.

North Sea.

A German Nav air flotilla attempts to exploit a bit of laziness on the part of Great Britain in "defending" the North Sea. However, it's the RN that find and with enough surprise points to avoid (a naval air) combat.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #8.

Japan. China. Strategic Bombing.

Japanese strategic bombers hit Chinese production hard, reducing by 2 PP's from 5 to 3 PP's, or more significantly from 5 to 3 BP's.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Axis #8.

Japan. China. Army Group Terauchi.

General Terauchi manages to clear his southern flank of a troublesome Nationalist garrison army hold up in the mountains east of Nanyang. However, this victory doesn't come cheap. It cost Terauchi two MIL armies.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #9.

Nazi-Soviet Pact.

Soviet GRU has confirmed with 100% certainty that Hitler will break the Nazi-Soviet Neutrality pact in early July (1941). Though this news sent comrade Stalin into a deep depression for a week or so, in which he isolated himself from everyone else in the Soviet government, his closest henchmen manged to pull him out of his depression. Bolstered by the support of his henchmen, Stalin has ordered a general pull back of Soviet air and ground forces from the pact border areas. However, with only 5 land moves between his forces and Mao's, all of which go to the Red Army this impulse, there's only such much "pulling back" that the Red Army can do.

Actions.

USSR - combine.

China - land.

Great Britain - combine.

France - naval.

USA - combine.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #9.

RN. Port Strike. Brest.

Maybe not the wisest port strike with only 1 air to sea factor. The Germans get the drop on the RN carrier planes, and with only 1 air to sea factor attacking, know at worse that their AA fire will reduce bombs to 0. At best, after all of their 8 surprise points to increasing AA fire by 4 columns, there's a 21.6% of shooting down the attacking CVP group. That is, 21.6% that all three AA rolls will be a 5 or higher. However, in the end, the AA fire (lowest 1 of 3) produced a 1 which reduced RN bombs to 0.

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #9.

RN. The Italian Coast.

The HMS CV Glorious air group returned to a different carrier last impulse leaving the Glorious without an air component. This impulse, the CV Glorious and HMS Repulse were detached from the main RN force in the 3-box and moved down to the 0-box in the incorrect belief that the CV Glorious could be returned back to England during the end of turn RTB phase. The better, or correct naval move this impulse would have been to return the Glorious to Gibraltar where it went during the RTB base. But, that's getting ahead of things ...

Turn 11. May/June 1941. Allied #9.

RN. The Italian Coast. Naval Air Combat.

Whatever mistakes the RN made during movement they executed this naval air combat flawlessly including the use of their 8 surprise points.

1. Air to air. 2 SP's points were used to reduced the Italians air-to-air by 1 column from -2 to -3/-4. Note that it would have taken 6 SP's to decease Italy's air to air by 2 columns (i.e., to -5/-6) and 4 SP's to increase Great Britain's air-to-air by only 1 column from +2/+3 to +4. The result of the air to air couldn't have gone much better for the British. All British bombers were cleared and the Italian fighter were aborted. Note that because the lead RAF fighter group was a twin engine group that the result against the Italian fighter was 1 result lower, an aborted instead of a shoot down. However, the goal for the British was to get all their bombers through, without loss, which they accomplished.

2. Italian Anti-Air. 4 SP's were used to reduced Italian AA by two columns from the lowest 1 of 4 to no effect, thus ensuring that all bombers got through with their full bomb loads.

3. Naval Air Attack. The remaining 2 SP's were used to increase risk from X, D, 2A to X, 2D. The Italians failed all their damage rolls resulting in the loss of the heavy cruiser Bolzano, supply convoy and damage of the heavy cruiser Eugenio Di Savoia.

A very good round for the RN.

RN. The Italian Coast. Round 2.

Note that the RN "find" number dropped by 1 due because of the loss of the Italian CP in the 0-box. That is, no -1 modifier to the RN's search roll due to presence of axis CP's.

Turn 11. May/June 1941.

Nazi-Soviet Pact.

The two USSR chits shown in the "Offensive" pool are actually in the defensive pool of the Japanese-Soviet pact. The Soviets elected to put their one chit chosen this turn (1-value) in the Japanese-Soviet pact defensive pool and moved one chit (4-value) from the Nazi-Soviet defensive pool to the Japanese-Soviet defensive pool.

Germany put both chits draw (5 and 2 value) in their offensive pool and moved the 5-chit in the defensive pool to their offensive pool.

Turn 11. May/June 1941.

Japanese-Soviet Pact.

Japan got to draw a chit this turn (3-value), which they put in their defensive pool. They also moved a 1 value chit from their offensive to defensive pool.

Turn 11. May/June 1941.

US Entry.

A poor draw for the US, Japanese entry pool. The US draws a 1 value chit.

The US in holding out for option 34(17), "Pass War Appropriations Bill", elect no option this turn.
