Stuck at "thinking (combat F)"

I'm playing Italy solo (Germany and Japan played by AI). It's now the 3rd time I played the Italian campaign and after a few years the same problem always appears.

During axis AI play (Germany or Japan) the game gets stuck at "thinking (combat F) …" Always this phase, always during the friendly AI turn.


Sometimes it helps if I replay the Italian turn. Sometimes it helps if I perform a some movement and combat with some of the axis AI-units. In my current game neither helps.

I'm going to hazard a guess: could the AI be including some of the Italian units in its thinking?


BTW: the AI sometimes moves the Italian heavy tank when I have not used it.

Just wanted to add that the AI has now started moving other Italian units around: armies, corps, …
