I suspect if the Allies make it priority one from game start to air ship supplies into China, that the fight there turns out very differently. JFB's have gotten very good at taking China, but so far I have only seen a handful of players defend it somewhat effectively.

The Chinese are incredible diggers, and by now there should be several decent Corps dug in at levels 5-6 in some of those mountain passes.
Heh, I imagine it is very hard psychologically to set aside early some of your strong corps to dig in in the defensible hexes south of Chungking or west of Sian. You would always think that this AV is better used right away, plugging some hole or repelling some attack on the frontlines. While in reality one 2:1 retreat will be enough to mess them up forever on said frontlines, compared to 4:1 or 5:1 not being enough if they are left digging for 2 months.

Just like you are better off forming the 1st Burma at Lashio rather than Rangoon.[;)]

I only disagree about the digging. I think they dig in slowly. But maybe that's just compared to other Allied units.

I don't have any units with the kind of field fortifications you are citing.

Standard starting big Chinese corps (300+ AV, 50% disabled) take 2-3 days/ 12-16 days /36-40 days/ 3+months to dig in to forts 1/2/3/4 in the open while A/B/C divided.
Small corps (70-200 AV ones) is much-much slower in digging

What Get said, but they also have quite a few bulldozer equipped units too to help them dig in.

Those don't help in the open though, I tested it. In the wilderness it is every LCU for itself

Apparently they felt the need to put this on an electronic sign north of Phoenix:

We're on 10 acre lots, each is 220 yards to a side. My nearest neighbor is directly across the street. Their driveway plus mine makes the houses at least 160 yards apart. [:D]

Over in Flagstaff (90 minutes away) they got 40.3 inches at the airport for the whole storm, 35.9 inches on Thursday alone.

I'll remember not to complain!

One year we got 30 inches for Halloween and it did not melt until April. At that, we were lucky that it did not wait until May.

One time we only had -56 below F while an hour away it was officially -60 below and unofficially -72 in the swamp where the cold air was coming from.

I like to say that the weather is nice as long as the snow is not moving sideways . . .

Sometimes a big unit gets hung up at level 2 forts. By dividing it, they will dig deeper and when you combine them, it will at least keep the lowest level of forts. Something to think of if you were to divide units and have each section in echelon. When the other two beat up sections reach the third section, recombine them and all will be dug in to a certain extent.

edited for spelling! [:@]

It was moving sideways. During the storm there were at least two times were there were several inches on the ground (all over) and ten minutes later fierce winds had scraped large sections of earth bare of snow. I figure the slope at the north end of this valley must be one massive snow drift.

Yup, that is how it works. Except around here, they dug big holes in the ground for the snow to go into . . .

1942 November 26

Our current operations re Burma. Along the Arakan we seek only to hold; in central-northern Burma we advance, the opposite of our earlier dispositions! A 954 AV Chinese corps and two 173 AV units are advancing along this line with a British light tank unit. An Indian division and an Australian Recce Rgt are following. Another Indian division and a heavy armoured unit will likely follow.

Two LRP Bdes are at Ledo preparing for Katha (86% and 66%), they will air drop to aid a frontal assault. HQ's are are moving to follow the ground units.

Paoshan is OK but not exactly flush. He's brought a lot to the vicinity. There is at least one IJ unit in the city via cross country travel. Another got trashed crossing the river into the city and left by that route. I've sent more there but I am now struggling to hold the Kunming perimeter so can't spare more units just now. He is bombing all three air bases but Paoshan is in the best shape, so many transports are landing there at the moment.
