Thanks for the comment, Larry. The toughest part is figuring out how the colors work with each other. I think I went through these five times before I obtained the results posted here.

Because the colors are read by column you can even change those background colors and not have an effect on cooperation level. This is the plus about using color position over using color number. But it's not much of a plus.

Hi Lobster,

I'm wary of confusing things for the players, but ... I'm typically using the last of a column of five for aircraft, and freeing up one color would allow me to include another color painted on the aircraft.

Yeah, the new process is only good for getting the gradient right the first time, for everything else it is garbage to work with and should only be an option. Instead it was forced on us and we have no choice. Well, we do have a choice, don't use TOAW IV [:-]

I'd really like to see if the development team can make the coloring of units a LOT easier to use.

Kudos for the effort, however I find many of the examples very hard tlon my eyes. The French 1940 airplane (hard to read) or the Soviet schema (the fluorescent red is really hurting my eyes).

gliz2, thanks for the comments. The Soviet red is quite bright. I can take a look at other versions that could be optionally put into the .col file. Interesting how personal color perception is. I find some of the combos a bit jarring but nothing physically hard to look at.

I agree that the Red used in the Soviet counters is too bright; not painful, but certainly jarring...

Thanks for the comment, 76mm. I'll definitely tone the red down. The "British" counters have issues as well, particularly the air unit colors. Need to look at that one again.

Beautiful work.

Nevertheless, I must agree with 76mm. Try to tone down the red. Wash it up a bit with white/yellow (just a little), so that it gets a little more readable. If you just decrease saturation, contrast will decrease, due to the luminosity of the background color. Increase lightness a bit and push the hue to the yellow side a bit as to prevent a pinkish tone. I'm posting a suggestion below. The middle one is untouched.

All, thanks again for the comments and encouragement. [8D]

One I don't care for is the "Soviet Guards" look. True yellow is too garish, but even the "gold" color I used for the revised version makes the red really jump off the counter. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of reversing the foreground and background colors of the "Standard Soviet" look for Guards, but I'll have too see if that puts too much red in the mix.

Much better now ;)
I will gripe again on the colour for figures on British and French planes.

PS. Can anyone tune this up to his preferences? If I find then figures too dark on them planes would I be able to make the font brighter on my own?

Hi gliz2,

Yeah, I'm trying to use colors that were actually on the aircraft ... darker tones to be sure.

Get the spreadsheet that is in this thread. It is a tool to enter hex color codes and get the numbers used by the .col file.

tm.asp?m=4513363

Hex color codes can be viewed at https://www.rapidtables.com/web/color/index.html to identify which color is desired.

Cathar,
As I've designed quite few icons/counters in my life I'd suggest to use white/black fonts for visibility.

And for planes they usually had numbering in whites (see French planes painting schemes for D.520)
