Formations' Icons

Post by StuccoFresco »

Hi, I have a question regarding the kind of ingame icon that is chosen to represent a Formation. Since in the .xls file, Formations' sheet, there is no cell where i can choose the desired icon the formation will show in the game map, i suspect it's "hardcoded".

What makes the game decide what icon to show? Does the formation takes the icon of the most numerous subunit in the formation? So if i have a Motorized Rifle Battalion with 10Rifle 8APC and 2 ATGM, it will show the mechanized infantry icon? What happens if there are two subunits with equal numbers? Is there a priority assignment?

Or maybe it's the "Role" cell that predetermines the game map icon? But i see it changes during the game (for example, when mech infantry travels onboard its APCs, the icon becomes an APC).

Thanks in advance.

If we are talking the sil that gets used on the counters in-game, that object is based on the most numerous sub-unit in the unit. In cases of a tie, it is the first unit. If there are vehicles and troops and it has a mechinf role then you get the loaded vehicle and unloaded NATO sil. The behavior is hard coded. It's not advised to change the Role since that impacts AI. In cases where there is a mix of unit types, the "+" indicator is active on the unit.

Thank you very much! So it's fairly easy to decide what the unit will show: just be sure that the symbol you want to be shown belongs to the most numerous subunit and the first that is listed in the "formation" sheet.
