Situation Report:

It was a long time since I have been posting here. Mostly because I have been focused playing. For now I am only able to do one turn per real day or sometimes even less. Today is the 31st July 1944 and if everything goes to plan I am expecting to end this game by the end of the year 1944. So in about 6 months real time. I have been playing for more than two years without and reloading due to mistakes made in the decision.Image

Many of the carriers were lost in the beginning so I was forced to change strategy. What I did was focus on India, Indochina and China. All men capable of fighting were sent to that theatre. Burma was never captured by the Japanese and by the end of 1943 Indochina was liberated and as I can remember Singapore by Christmas 1943.

Thereafter all the focus switched to liberating China. This battle is still ongoing. Mainly focusing on encircling and destroying Japanese forces while a heavy bombing campaing with bombers flying from Shanghai and nearby areas is devastating Japan.

The submarines are also operating from Shanghai and effectively blockading Japan.

Wake Island, Guam and Saipan were recaptured but considering the heavy losses sustained; I am not really interested in pursuing to occupy island wich in my opinion do not hold any value or are worth fighting for. I regret mostly attacking Saipan because I am not really sure what I would need it for. This was probably a mistake but on the other hand. Naval bombers are now patrolling the area and blockading any surrounding islands from being resupplied by the Japanese.

The Japanese carriers were finished of in a rather unspectacular showdown. They were lured and destroyed by the allied carrier forces. Since I have learned to play the game without carrier support, I am not really using them and I do not think I will need them until maybe an invasion of Japan.

The strategic plan is to recapture all of China and Korea and launch an invasion with the help of US, British and Chinese forces from there.

Summarized:

If no carriers are available and option is to focus on India, China and IndoChina. Make sure to know where the enemy carriers are and avoid them as much as you can. You do not really need to duel them.

Primary Objective:
-Liberation of Indochina. Needed to ensure no attacks can be launched from here.
-Liberation of Singapore. Needed to keep supplies going through here to reach Hong Kong and supply China.
-Liberation of Hong Kong. A big port is needed to keep supplies coming to China by naval routes.
-Liberation of Shanghai. From there submarines and bombers can operate against Japan.
-Liberation of all of China and Korea. To be used as a staging area against a possible invasion of Japan.

Any supplies convoyed to Hong Kong via Singapore should be heavily escorted.

Congrats on your strategy shift!

However, you have just exposed game's biggest weakness, which is the universal supply system. The bombers and subs operating out of China would need US-made supply, while in the game they can use China-made supply. In RL, your avenue of advance would have required a HUGE logistics effort, shipping TONS of supplies from USA to Burma. In the game, the Japs almost always lose the backdoor war in the CBI theatre due to the universal supply system powering the Allies.

I think you overstate the case. With no carriers to fight in SOPAC and CENTPAC, a lot of US forces would have been sent to India and on to Burma when the time was right. Along with the troops would be a strong stream of supply from EC USA to Capetown to India/Burma/China.

The abstraction of thousands of supply and transport clerks getting the right stuff on the right ship going to the right place is not so unbelievable. Yeah, it is feasible to separate supply into food/LCU ammo/bombs/Naval ammo/AVGAS/vehicle fuel, but I want to play for the battles, not for the additional burden of doing what thousands of real life people did.

I agree with the separate food, ammo, bombs, etc. But doing so would add a level of detail to the game that would make it virtually unplayable. A "National Supply" point that works 80% {figure pulled from backside} for other nations might work better than such detail {a level that would require migraine medicine to be shipped with the game}.

And yes, the allies would have figured out a way to get the supply to where it was needed. It would just take more "supplies" to get it where it needed to be. I believe they supplied Egypt through the middle of Africa at one point.

Victory after 4 y 2m 25d! So happy! So fullfilled.

Post by DeZanic »

So yeah I finally managed to achieve a victory although the odds seemed hopeless when I started to play this game.

I started on 7 December 2014 and played until today 3 March 2019. So this is definitely the longest game I have ever played in my life with a duration of 4 years 2 months and 25 days. I feel very satisfied to have finished such an incredibly long game. So I have to brag just a little :-P

So now what? Should I try this game as Japanese? Maybe a different game in the same genre? Hmm...

I think you should try a PBEM.

+2. Given you've already shown a capacity to take some lumps and keep going, you should have no shortage of potential opponents looking for a good fight [:D]

Get a live opponent. It will be even more satisfying.

Once you go PBEM you cant really go back. The computer can be challenging but it cannot react to the overall tactical game like a human can.

Just dropping by to say how refreshingly intrepid your ongoing battle was, DeZanic. Well done! Very few players get all the way through the game, let alone one that starts poorly.

Agree with the others about your next game-make it vs. a skilled human opponent and you'll have something to occupy you for your next 5 years. [8D]

I agree. It's fun to play the AI but it's a lot more fun to play a real opponent! I"ve been playing against live opponents since 2012 or so and it's by far more enjoyable.
