Public humiliation

Post by herbieh »

Well the public humiliation continues. As you could guess (if anyone is still reading this , the war being lost and all that) Wobbly had set a nice little trap at gavinama (or what ever they call it), and my small task force encountered only PT boats, and mines.
Ca Hagurana is going home.
Worse to follow, some crazy admiral had sent BB kongo staeming south (on react?on follow TF? who knows) straight into the arms of at least 2 CVs
Bye Bye Kongo, she wont get home, and another CA, also maxed.

GGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRR

This is humiliating!!!

Im going into my shell until wobbly makes a move, did you know that all it takes to get lots of ships released before OCT all you have to do is have 6 capital ships sunk!
Try it, it works well.
Another big question that now begins to loom , where is wobblies LBA, especially the B17s??
And I wonder why I dont sleep at nights:D

Unbelievable

Post by herbieh »

Today wobbly didnt sink a million tons of shipping, or destroy an air force. When was the last time that didn t happen

All quiet that turn

He is still reconning GG and Irau madly, Ive got surface forces assigned for both places

Ive ordered the capture of woodlark island, will attempt to buils a small field there,
Munda is finished building airfield wise, as is shortlands and gasmatta, Admiralties almost finished

No real troop reinforcements coming yet, but I got a carrier!, one little CVE, Ive sent her to shortlands, not sure what to do with her yet.
My big hope is that wobbly attacks too early, but I doubt it, I think Wunpunko and Gavinnama? to its north will groan under the wieght of B17s, , and these will smash me.

What to do?

have more beer!:D

about time

Post by herbieh »

Normal thing, Im waiting for his turn while he waits for mine.
Big convoy got into GG, lots of troops there now, and adequate supplies.
massive supply convoys are departing truck, and what troops I have are almost where I want them.

Im moving all my ex cv vals and kates back to shortlands, until i know where the attack will come.
Lots of planes, not many real ships yet.
intelligence (E mails) from wobbly show a desire to attack very shortly, I really hope he does, I think he will come up short.
No action , lots of tension.

lurking

Post by herbieh »

Nothing much happened that turn, its now sept. My only 2 BBs in theatre lurk 6 hexes north of GG while I finish unloading there.
Millions of transports, not enough escorts.
troops landing at woodlark, and another field being built at marilan.

having secured the far east greater co prosperity sphere, Imperial HQ relaxes, orders in the beer, and thumbs its nose at wobbly.

Getting a few turns in tonight, no more time to post, time to kill yanks.

raise steam

Post by herbieh »

Enemy shipping sighted in the coral sea, we order the BBs in shortland to raise steam, and await orders.
Is it a convoy, or something more sinister?

BB Musashi is enroute, with significant escort.
Since Im now playing for entertainment, she probably wont be committed until yammato arrives, the thought of those two battlewagons together has that something IJN fans just love, and I cant resist it.:D

the cheek of it all!

Post by herbieh »

Wobbly asked me if I wanted to surrender.

NO WAY

Little to report still, Ive occupied some of those small islands to the east of GG, using small forces as trip wires.
real life interfering a bit this week.

No sign of action from my honorable opponent, my supply situation continues to improve.

oh oh

Post by herbieh »

I havent posted for a couple of turns as nothing has been happening, no sign of action, no move from wobbly

Well its on, I think.
A convoy approaching rossell island has just been smashed by a CV group just to the east of GG, and PM, as I thought it would be has been closed in one big strike, I moved aircraft out the day before, so no planes trapped yet.

I reckon this is a deception, my forces remain in harbour, and mt Betties and nells remain grounded until I get a better picture.

My tactic is this, I believe any attempt to immediately oppose an invasion will see his CVs sink my critical BBs, so Im going to hold a bit, and hope a opportunity comes up.

As a tactic poor CVE urnyo will become my own decoy, next turn she heads east from shortlands, for a big around the edge move, and make a lunge north of wunpunko, timing hopefully when wobblies invasion is fully committed.
Then I will release the BBs, and Betties.

Only 20 days then Shok,Zuikaka and Hiryo return

Can I hold. I doubt it, not yet, lets see how he goes about december with long supply lines, if this is the attack, thigs are good.

Well wobbly is attacking, and boldly at that.

GG is full of warships, and some hit the mines there, one CA and a DD.
My response is deliberately weak, a single Kate strike from Dobadura, which performed pathetically.
Im so glad I didnt react with surface forces, as his CVs move boldly into the middle of the ocean north of GG. GG is full of CAs and a BB.
Unfortunately my plan for CVE uryo is bust, she got caught transitting with a convoy, down she will go.
Im trying to clear the oceans, and also get some base forces over to New guinea, Im too heavily biased to the solomon chain.

My reaction this turn will be Betties and nells from Lea Lea, one strike only, hopefully at the transports, his CVs I hope will be hitting a PG decoy force.
His LBA is awsome, PM and dobadura are now closed.
This is going to be tough.
too depressing to drink beer.
Anyone with some spare weapons of mass destruction???

On the bright side, his CV's can't stay their forever (or can they)?
If Gili Gili really is closed, using your Bettys to keep it closed once he captures it might be a good idea.

Glad

Post by herbieh »

Glad some one is still on my side

Interesting turn. His invasion fleet sems to have just about unloaded, might be enough troops, might not be!
My mines continue to cull, it was a very big field
I think 3 aps, a DD and a CA so far have hit mines
Only one squad of Nells struck, for a fair return, one or two APs hit.
They have been sent to Wau to rebuild. 3 more squads of Betties and nells, with 1 SQ of zeros, and my 1st reinforcement sq of oscars are ordered to attack at lea. The zeros last attack culled his wildcats very well.

Ive been caught with far too many base forces too far forward, so some are being fast trans. from lunga to gassmatta.
All bases in the area are well built, it will be a game of getting base forces in place that will really count.

In what Ive really agonised over, Ive sent all shipping (less minelayers, 3 fast trans ) back to Truck, Im going to let his CVs roam in a target vacuum, build my forces, and when I strike, really strike.
In the meantime I will dribble my LBA with heaps of zeros into the fray, wear his CAP out, then really hit with all my orphaned carrier air groups.

I truly think wobbly has jumped the gun, struck with far too little support. All game he has avoided a fight, now hes stuck with one.

The next month will be deadly.
Who said this game is over as soon as the jap CVs are sunk?
Also his LBA didnt strike that turn, real uber weapons fly every day.
Dobadura is already back online!

Interesting

Post by herbieh »

Well only another day and the garrison at GG will be destroyed, the base has fallen.

Disapointing day, only 9 Nells launched, over 50 bombers refused to fly, all high morale ect, very perplexing.
The raid that did go scored no hits, but the escorts took one for one on the wildcats, a oscar even got a kill.
3 aps finished off in the solomon sea, and uryo gone as well, as wobbly sails his CVs right up to woodlark. Surely his pilots are tired now!

I have 3 fast transport groups unloading at gasmatta, they are exposed, but I need base forces there. gasmatta is a fully functioning size 4 base if they get the base forces unloaded.

I tried an experiment, sent 4 pgs into GG, they got sunk, but, and this excites me, wobblies BB and CAs appear to have retired, having expended their ammo. If, If the fast transports survive, I will try a whoosh whoosh long lance attack now that he has had to retire major units.

Its a trick I think i will pay very close attention too.
Finally mines continue to score at GG.

better

Post by herbieh »

A better day. Finally a squad of betties flew, no hits, but his CAP was busy
Better yet, the 1st squadron from Gassmatta , 14 vals and escorts hit his ships, 3 APs hit.
Even better, North Carolina hit 2 mines today, but she doesnt seem undamaged

Im going to keep up just a steady pressure, moved heaps of AC to gassmatta that turn, I will rest now for one day, then really do a big attack...... a 4ca 6dd force is coming into the theatre.
3 fast transports TFs of 1 cl ,5dds each are refuelling, will in 3 days attack from Lea.

Hopefully wobbly thinks he has a tiger by the tail, which hasnt exposed its real claws yet.

Big reinforcements have arrived Truck.

bold

Post by herbieh »

Wobbly continues to boldly move into the solomon sea, his CVs are now North of woodlark, and struck another 3 APs trying to run away.
Im still trying to clear the waters.

Today Ive given attack orders to over 200 AC to attack!
Wonder how many actually will.....

Day made

Post by herbieh »

Well about half the planes flew
1st strike claimed a DD sunk near woodlark
2nd gave 2 very good hits on AOs, this will matter later.
3rd strike saw 3 torp hits on BB North Carolina, shes out of the war!

Wobblie is withdrawing his CVs, Im going for another big effort, maximum Port strikes this time, Ive transferred heaps of planes back into Dobodurra, Buna, and PM, they are all up and running, gassmatta and Lea will strike as well if all goes well.

Also from Lunga a sweep or 2 has been ordered, just to keep wobbly wondering

Elsewhere, 3 small task forces have dispatched from Kavieg, long lances at the ready.
And at Truck, a massive grey lump of metal, escorted by lots of other large lumps of metal, slips quietly out, and heads south....

carnage

Post by herbieh »

The aerial carnage above GG continues, I truly hope Wobbly hopes he has got a tiger by the tail, The effort by my airforces cant be maintained for much longer, crippled planes are scattered all over the place.

The gamble to use dobadura and PM again didn t come off, 50 B17s hit Dobadura and closed it again, and the mediums closed PM again.
I think at the moment though I have five fields I can use, and he can only close 2 at a time. When GG gets up and running though I truly will be in trouble.

1st off my subs (which I have had in reserve for ages) return, sinking 1, and hitting another AP
The air battle was fierce, I guessed North Carolina would dock, and was right.
A squad of P39s are now in GG, and wildcats are on CAP (a carrier? detached?, where are they coming from?)
The P39s fell like autumn leaves, some wildcats too, my zeros and oscars are still in the fight, but now getting very tired
3 250 KG deck armour hits on North Carolina, just to add to the mess.
other results disapointing, far too many planes damaged for results achieved.

His CVs are leaving, at least 3 days away.
Tonight the surface forces attack, some are already spotted, but not all of them....
And my last wave of available a/c are put back to naval attack

If only I had some troops to send into this fray, I could have really fought this out, I have so many transports and DDs at truck there is no room left for the CVs and Cas coming soon to anchor.....

No troops

Post by herbieh »

hi veer, no, this is scene 17, very variable, I get the 6th division and I think the 51st in another 44 days time, late NOVEMBER in this game, and the aircraft reinforcements are lousy too, I really drew the long stick with this game, thats partially why IM actually not too distressed about getting thrashed, it was always going to be a real struggle

Still, things went really well last night...... :D
Subs hit a AP
2 Surface force Task groups hit GG.
I count 5 PT boats, 1 ,maybe 2 APs sunk, 3 minewsweepers sunk , several destroyers going home for the crippling of 1 DD (she will get home)
Aicraft in the morning clobbered 2 CAs and a DD

3 Minesweepers!!!!!. If I keep that up, he will get only 1 more invasion, my minelayers are all really going well.

Tonight 4CA,1CL and DDs will strike, aircraft will need 2 days to recover at Gasmatta, unfortunately Dobadura and PM are badly closed. PM is being emptied of engineers, they are marching to buna.

And just near the Admiralties 3 BB, and 4CA or so are steaming south, very very hard.
I estimate a window of 3 more days before the carriers return, and close my little party.

writing on the wall

Dive bombers operating now out of GG, PM and Dobadura both closed for good, with planes stuck there too, it aint looking good.
I lost my 1st minelayer to them.

I will fight on!
3CA,1CL and DDs swept into GG last night, claimed yet more pt craft, and 2 DMs, but never bombarded the field.
Another, yes another group will be having a go tonight
Ive ordered a BB attack as well, 2 days out I think, this is a gamble, the CVs might be getting close by then

For planes, Im withdrawing all bombers(ex CV), for the big operation down the track, my Betties and Nells are moving to Munda, here I plan a night air campaign

I intend to get as many zeros operating over GG as I can muster

Long term plan, in 40 odd days time 2 full fresh divisions arrive, and 3 CVs ( i hope)
The CVs can become a decoy, while I send a huge invasion fleet to GG

IF wobbly invades anywhere else between now and then I have a easy plan. Do nothing
His LBA will dominate , so I just cant give him targets until then, and I must conserve my airpower.
Thats the plan. For what it is worth
