Possible optional rule on upgrades

Post by Majick »

Hi Devs,

I'm finding it a little bit harsh that when I upgrade a unit that also needs reinforcements it take two full turns to do both.

Would it upset the balance if there were to be an optional rule that units get reinforced to max possible at the same time as they are upgraded (with the costs added together)?

(I had meant to post this on the World at War forum, but originally put it on the War in Europe forum by mistake (I've now downed my screen res so I can read better :) )

One could argue that upgrading is way too fast on its own (compared to history, where you had to learn how to use the new equipment).

The highest level of experience status (Elite), playing 1939 House Stock game is couple of Japanese Armies getting to +3. Those Jap units begin at +2 and +1. There's not time to polish their bayonets & hand out medals, the hills are filled with Chinese. Occasionally there's value in pulling a stud piece off the fighting line if there's specific work opportunity to be done. German U-Boats have also gotten to +3 in experience (Elite), when given the opportunity to sink Allied convoys while knocking down cases of Beck's Beer & tossing empties into the waters. Sailing Commanders Max, Otto, Wolfgang, Karl, & Klaus into properly supplied port takes effort.

The balance of the game is important. Players complain of Superman Tanks, yet we all want the Salad Dressing medals, UFC-World-Beaters, #1 Song, etc. Currently, the balance is good. Supply, Upgrades due to technology & Experience (passing them Medals out) works for me.

Slaps issued: 16 - Patton, Dana White, Batman, Samson. Medals/Salutes given: 6, warnings received: 11, suspensions served: 4, riots: 2.

Yes but it is a month between your turns and it does not take that long to get new equipment and reinforcements. For a very in-depth look at the maintenance issues for the Germans here is a link.
