RE: How to view enemy losses?
Lobster, Yes, I gave an example. That should suffice. I've done a lot of game mods and dialog window scripts but I'm not a programmer and don't have access to the tables/scripts. This is for the game designers and supporters to review and ask questions to confirm what is possible.
Currently I can't do any images or links to show examples so I'm pretty limit on what I can show for ideas.
I know, you have an opinion and a belly button...as the rest of us. :0)
Maybe we should open a forum requesting for more input on how the dialog should work/look? Better to ask the whole group and try and cover the biggest demand /need with one quick update so Bob can go back to focusing on the game functions/bugs with minimal interruption. That would be my suggestion.
Once I'm able to post images, I'll see if I can open the topic to get more feedback.

RE: How to view enemy losses?
--UnionWarDogOnly question, can I load my older maps and scenarios in the newer version or do I have to rebuild them?
I think the answer is, 'it depends'. If they are from TOAW III, you should be able to load them into TOAW IV and save them with the TOAW IV format. Older maps and scenarios may require being loaded first into TOAW III, saved as TOAW III versions, and then loaded into TOAW IV.
Cheers

You could add a field like below but you would also have to add all of the supporting code. What's really irksome is people who say they want they want they want yet give no suggestions as to how their want can be accomplished.

I support this, I would like to see this someday in toaw.

RE: How to view enemy losses?
Between the way TOAWIV(loss penalty) and JTS(individual soldiers, artillery, leaders, etc) give values about the enemy casualties the sweet spot might be to just use the equipment categories in TOAW and then sum up the enemy losses and show this to the player to give im a bit more detail on the enemy casualties.
Now what is to much info in my opinion is that I see what the enemy can replace or not in the combat report.
Would intelligence be so good that I know what he produces and what not?

Like this, it's the standard I&R screen, but add the green [switch sides], and when you switch sides hide the red and keep only the blue. Maybe that would work for those that want it, and if you don't want it you don't have to see it!
But Bob just said he is focusing on game play features, not UI features.

This is exactly what i'd like. [8D]

Or add another column on the right, with "Enemy lost(est.)".
This would be dependent on your "recon capability", so a low recon would mean a large discrepancy between actual losses and the estimation.

RE: How to view enemy losses?
Bob, just like all the efforts you made to do the battle results for your ACW Shiloh battle. That information should be easily accessible during and after the game. Your results postings were GREAT but obviously a lot of independent work separate from the TOAW game features. This is the point. Players want the game to tally the results and info without extensive dataminig to create independent reports.
RE: How to view enemy losses?
Is this data in an XML file somewhere? If so, would probably be pretty easy to rig up some kind of report. You could even have "scalable FoW", so that the enemy figures that you see could be +/- up to 0%, 10%, 20%, etc. That would be pretty cool.

RE: How to view enemy losses?
It used to be output in a CSV form but that stoppedIs this data in an XML file somewhere?
about 3 years ago I think. I'm not aware of any aux.
files being put out but there IS a toaw_log.txt file
and you can arrange to produce a PO_log.txt and I'm
blanking on the names of the other files that can be
output that you might be able to use for data on the
battles. Look in the advanced player settings for
a way to turn these reports on.

RE: How to view enemy losses?
I just discovered that the sitrep file is a CSV file and contains the info of all the battles that occured that turn. I don't remember what the numbers in the middle of each entry mean any longer but they are the number of losses, the number assigned, the equipment number ( for the equipment icon ), and I don't remember what else. You have the battle date, the side that suffered the losses, the name of the equipment, those numbers, and whether or not replacements are available. You can extract the data from this file to construct a list of the battles and the losses from it. The entire turn is included in the file including all the battles.

Hey Klink dude: I can't get your link to work for direct downloads.ORIGINAL: Oberst_Klink
Larry,
Your Combat Loss Viewer still works with TOAW IV. I have it in Dropbox here.
Let me know if it works for you peeps.

RE: How to view enemy losses?
Yeah, that one does the same thing that the first link did.
I get part of the file but it never finishes downloading.

RE: How to view enemy losses?
Hey you guys...I thought I'd see if 7Zip could unzip the part of the download file that I get when I ask for the combat viewer ZIP file from the interwebs. And it worked so I fired up the Combat Viewer and lo and behold, it worked. I gotta see if I can recreate the source code for this program. I'll do some kind of "how to use the combat viewer" thread so you guys can use it easily too.

Wow, guys! Now we're cooking. Looks VERY interesting. I'll try that on my TOAW3 and see how it goes.
Thanks, Larry/guys.
