Satellites and slow game play

I have never used satellites before. Wanting to try them out, I created a scenario, using the same satellites that another scenario had included in their scenario because I had no clue which ones should actually be there.

After including satellites, the scenario seems to have slowed down so much that I have resorted to turning various options off in order to make it run faster. I actually don't know why it's happening.

I really enjoy the satellites, but am I using too many? Do satellites actually slow game speed, or is there likely another issue? Perhaps the inclusion of satellites has nothing to do with the slow game speed. When it started slowing down, it was kind of simultaneous with the creation of the new game files and the inclusion of satellites. So, it could be these things, or something else. BTW, my AU Count is 1309, if that helps.

Can someone suggest some settings that would lead to faster play? Right now, at the 1:1 settings, it seems as if it is running at 1:2, or each second of play takes two real seconds.
