Does EvK know that one can hear the 305mm Rockets and 210mm shells pound the Soviet positions on the East bank of the Volga? Rumor has it that the advanced engineering squads have crossed the Volga and cut the rail to the Caucasus .. only rumors ..

June 1942 continued
Soviet forces in the field at the start of June include fifty one rifle armies, of which three are guards. There are also four shock armies.
Among the infantry formations, the Red Army has now begun to form rifle corps. Twelve of these are organized during the first week of June. Another 370 divisions of which 33 are guards and 138 brigades make up the infantry component of the Red Army.
Over twenty tank corps and thirty tank brigades make up the mechanized forces of the Red Army. Only a single tank battalion has formed at this time. The creation of guards tank corps was anticipated in late 1941 and our winter offensive deliberately took into account the need to build win totals among select tank brigades. The Axis seemingly took no notice of this, focusing on the execution of their plan while we focused on ours. The 42a TO&E of a Soviet Guards Tank Corps is an unimpressive collection of 100 tanks, with 40 medium, 40 light and 20 heavy tanks. A number of these units receive a pair of sapper regiments to help with fort reduction when that need becomes more pressing in the future. For now, it helps make the unit slightly more combat effective. Once July arrives, a new TO&E will significantly increase the number of medium tanks and this will further improve combat effectiveness.
Eighteen guards and one regular cavalry corps make up the remainder of the mobile units of the Red Army. Cavalry-tank operations will have a distinct role to play as the summer begins, even though these unit strengths are still well below those of the enemy mobile units. Below is the makeup of one of our cavalry armies.
40th Army General Leitenant K.K. Rokossovsky 56,152 men 504 guns 285 AFVs

I can say that I have taken notice. Manpower is below 5.5M but the Soviets have some very strong units. Thus the Germans have adapted a strategy focused on reducing Manpower and forcing the stretching of coverage. Turn 61 this strategy is playing out ....
I am concerned that the Germans might run out of stuff before the Soviets are crushed .. then it will be a long retreat back to Berlin ..

During my stay in Baku the hotel advertised its views as looking something like this.

Truly heroic actions that directly led to bringing down the corrupt and incompetent Tsarist state cannot be compared to the grievous crime of promoting the U2VS. But it is not surprising that a Fascist would try.

That's actually quite an amazing structure. They even have a football field there!

Where - did you pick that up? Just by eye? I cannot see that?ORIGINAL: Nix77

It reminds me of another famous sea based football league. The fifteen ships trapped for eight years after 1967 in the Suez Canal area were stuck. But the owners of the ships still had to fly in and rotate crews for those ships like any other even though they were going nowehere. So what else could they do but set up their own football league for each ship to play each other.

Do you want to fly out to a summer climate to crew a ship that is not moving and spend your whole time playing football could not have been too bad a job offer.

Week 52
Axis forces round up their prisoners as one last week of mud across the front will soon be here. Meanwhile the weather is clear in the northern and southern zones.

Directly south of the Oka, a mixture of rifle corps belonging to three rifle armies of the STAVKA are intermixed with the four armies of Bryansk Front. Another three shock armies are also committed to the defense. A total of six panzer corps present in the area show this as a major area for conflict in coming months.

General Artemev has only been assigned as commander of Bryansk Front for several weeks while things were quiet. That is now changing.

In the air, three air armies are functional, the 1st, 4th and 8th. Long Range Air Command has bases near Gorky, but none are active at this time, even with German air raids taking place.

RE: The verdict is in
Here were the dispositions of the fighter units of 1st Air Army at the end of week 52. It can be noted how the great majority of these units have a readiness rate of 80% or better. Their operational range is set to one hex to maximize their effectiveness for the Axis turn.

At this time there are still some I-type fighters in service and the La-5 is not in production. The La-GG3 by now is approaching the end of its production run and its successor is one of the most important developments in the air war.
Here are the results of Axis air raids on the bases of the 1st and 4th Air Armies for week 53.

Soviet losses outnumbered Axis by a rate of 4-1.

RE: The verdict is in
Week 53 was when I relinquished control of the Soviets.
During the turn, a good number of fighter regiments had been set to fly at their maximum range. Others were set at a range of 1 so that they would not fly. Only nine were set to range=40 so they would fly in defense of Axis air raids the next turn.

Advice was given to make sure all fighter regiments were set to a similar range value of 40 prior to handing over the turn, but due to confusion this was not done. As a result, Soviet airpower was set up for a mauling the following week.
