Needing Steam to run as Admin to play...

Post by RevReese »

Hi all, just wondering if anyone can help me play WitE without needing steam to be started in admin mode.

To clarify: I can launch the launcher no problem, but after clicking "play" it attempts to load the game for a second or two before dropping me back to the launcher with no error.

I am using a standard account for security reasons too.

I know I can run Steam as Administrator permanently to workaround this, but i do not wish to do this for security reasons and the fact that only two other games in my whole library seem to need this (FSX:SE and CMANO {at least for me currently}).

The only way i can get the game to launch is to restart steam in admin mode EVERY time i want to play.

Can anyone help me or do i have to run Steam as admin every time?

Thank you.

For Windows 10

Create a desktop shortcut

For the location use "drive letter :\Matrix Games\Gary Grigsby's War in the East\autorun.exe"

for example if its installed on your C drive

"C:\Matrix Games\Gary Grigsby's War in the East\autorun.exe"

Then once you've created the icon click on it and it will run.

Thanks for your quick reply!

Sorry i forgot to mention i am using Windows 7 x64.

I tried the shortcut anyway for autorun.exe but have the same problem, launcher then nothing, then back to launcher.

Edit: On clicking play game from the shortcut, the launcher simply loads a second launcher but not the actual game, clicking play game again just brings up the other launcher and never actually launches the game.
