3.1 version

Post by sbond »

Anyone know where I could find an older version? The current version 3.3 has really made single player game nonexistent. :(

I can send you either 3.1 or 3.2.
I would recommend 3.2 as it solves the replacement bug of 3.1 and does not have the blizzard horror or tank decisions of 3.3

Email me direct if you want me to zip them to you.

Some players don't like the Axis blizzard routine. Before 3.3, the Axis units suffered massive shattering when their readiness was kept high by the player, as noted in older threads. For example, in testing it, I was able to destroy approximately half the Axis army, which was at high readiness, just by attacking with Soviet remnants in the blizzard. This problem impacted units in any entrenchment levels, cities, etc.

Now, we are hearing the same issues with 3.3, except that it is now the low readiness Axis units that have this problem. And the AI has never been noted for its tactical prowess, and doesn't both to keep its readiness up, so it is very vulnerable to this problem now. Whereas before it did fine because at low readiness it was pretty safe.

I would guess the old shattering rules were done to make the AI survive the winter better, even though the rule is completely illogical. Who should be more vulnerable to shattering? A high readiness unit as before, or a low readiness unit as now? Personally, I prefer the rule that follows both common sense and historical norms more, but some prefer the other because of playing the AI or because of personal play style, I suppose.

Let's hear from everyone else! :)

Since early to mid 1990's I have never as Soviet been able to crush the Germans in early war no matter the weather. Now I can destroy Germany in 42, which is insane. 3.3 made it so I could crush the Germans with just about any Soviet Corp.

Before all of these changes one had a hard time winning against Germans in the early war, you may have been able to take on weaker units during the first blizzard and push them back some, but no all out offensive. Now you can retake Kiev in Winter 41 early 42.

Even if these shatterings occured they were rare, now everyone shatters, or that was my experience. As the Soviets once the Germans reached by major Line of defense West of Moscow and Tula, when Winter hit I destroyed them, they had more AFV loses then the Soviets. That is just wrong.

I haven't played 3.1, but I can tell about 3.2. With a bit of care you can beat Germany in '42 even on Axis max help :) This game is just not made to be played in single player mode for a long time :p So join us PBEMers... give in to the Dark Side! :D
