Pbem
I am currently playing a game of the Barbarossa scenario. I received the file with the Russian set up. I started the German set up and saved the game before I finished. Now, upon trying to open up the file, I get an error message and then another error message saying I need to set up an e-mail account. It is game file 003 that I am trying to open. I have attached the file. I am using version 2.7.1.

Not sure what that file, or save, is. Is it a netplay save? The file is only 108 byte large. My normal saves are around 8 MB.

RE: Pbem
I got the file from the main screen where it says restore game. It is a zipped file. File 003 is some of the German set up which I saved. It is a zipped file.

Yes, it is zipped.. But it is the wrong size for a .GAM file (game save). Even unzipped. Is it a saved setup file (normally named .SET)?
Your file is less than 1kB in size. Saves would be almost 8 MB.

I started over and did the scrap units segment and I saved the game. I tried using .SET and the file would not open. I am now at placing units on the map for the German placement and I cannot even get the map to appear. I have to x out of everything to get to the file option to save the game.

It seems you do not understand what the different World in Flames file extensions mean.ORIGINAL: AstroBlues

See section 11.4 of the Players Manual (volume II). 11.4.7 explains GAM files while 11.4.6 describes SET files. A GAM file contains all the information necessary for the program to restore a game. A SET file simply lists where units for one major power are to be placed on the map during the Setup phase - and virtually no other information about the game except which optional rules are in effect.
What we need to help understand the problem you encountered is a GAM file. In order to attach it to a post in the forum you will need to zip the GAM file.

The file I attached is a .gam file. I zipped it. Earlier when starting Barbarossa, I tried e-mailing a .set file and it would not attach and then the game would not even open. My apologies, I have not read book II yet as I am still in Book I. Would you advise me to skip book I and read book II? Here is the file again.

I went back and started from an earlier file and the game worked. I was able to complete my set up, and am up to e-mailing the Russian player his reserve set up.

How do other players play MWiF Pbem? I found if you go to the next phase and then send the file, all the forms disappear. Is the trick not to go to the next phase until the other player has the file?

What forms do you mean? There should be no forms open when sending the game in an e-mail.
Can you confirm:
- What phase in the game you are on?
- What forms 'disappear'?
If you are talking about your earlier post and the Reserves, then I wouldn't e-mail my opponent for this. 'Normal' practice would simply be to ask the opponent where he wants to place his reserves (either he knows the game well or you could send him a picture of the units if not, or he could be following the progress of the impulse on his copy). But whichever way you do it, keep control of the game and you place the reserves yourself once he's told you where they should go.

My opponent is new at World in Flames. Would it work where I would put the reserves on the map and then let him put the units where he wants to? Is that workable?

I tried to put the reserves on the Map, for example in Moscow, and I could not drag them. How do you put reserves on the map?

Just click on one and place it on the map. If its a MIL from a named city it has to go in that city - otherwise it should be fine to go to any city anywhere (subject to any specific rule for the scenario you are playing).

I don't know if the undo button would work after saving - you could try.

I tried again to drag it on the map and it does not work. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I have followed this game for a long time and it is real frustration on my part that I cannot even get to the first turn. I will try again.

Don't drag. Just left click on the unit and then place it on the map. Also why were you asking about reserves if you are at set-up stage? I'm confused.

I got the reserves on the map. Am sending the file to place them where he wants them. Sorry for the rant. I just did not know to press the oK button.

Okay so you are at set-up stage. Reserves are something else. Hope it works!

The set up is finished. Sorry for the confusion. I have gone through the declare war stage and am at calling out reserves.

I opened up the file I sent and I am able to move the reserve units that were not located in city initially.
