Information bar

Post by Colonel von Blitz »

I've seen a lot of discussion about the player having 'the God eye'. Though it is very hard to build a game with realistically limited information, in SPWAW this has been done in quite satisfactory manner. But the information bar at the bottom of the screen seems to display information that IMHO should not be displayed; it's ok to see the results when firing at enemy units (like 1 casualty). BUT why, oh why, does it display casualties caused by artillery, even if none of your units have line of sight??? It's quite easy to spot enemy units behind a hill by just firing a couple of fire missions behind it... Hmm, or do my men see limbs, eyeballs and kidneys flying around :D :D :D

Howdy

Use the fast artillery :) Only casualty info it tells you is the loud *boooom* when a tank gets it. And besides that it's 100% boring watching every arty shell fly...

Fast artillery toggled on means that arty fire missions do not show in PBEM VCR, otherwise it was good advice...

ouch! Waiting 30min for a pre-planned barrage to finish in a canned senario was bad enough (before discovering the glorious Fast Artillery button).

Does this mean you have to experience every round of artillery under PBEM otherwise you risk not knowing artillery has been fired (I obviously haven't played any PBEM games :))

Yep, you have understood correctly. But of course you will see the results of the arty barrage even though if you used fast artillery :) And of course, one can always choose the PBEM battle so that there won't be those huge arty bombardments. Watching few mortars fire isn't that painful with fast arty off :D :D

Some additional 'fog of war' would really be nice here.
This kind of 'extrasensory perception' ( ;)) is not nice from realism POV.

Lots of work has been done to make SPWAW more realistic than previous versions of Panthers, but still player recieves more information about certain events, than is available even today.

(well, that information is maybe available today if you have couple of those remote controlled planes (like RQ-1 'Predator') airborne with high-resolution cameras... :) )

Knowing that your arty just destroyed an enemy tank 3000 yards away, or killed a grunt or two without any LOS is just a bit too much.

If loose limbs and/or bogie wheels are not flying all over the horizon, where do exactly this information comes from? ;)

Well, this is not the only 'too much information provided'-thing in SPWAW, but still..
