PBEM Bug - Can't Join a Challenge

My friend set up a challenge with a password. I highlighted his game and clicked join. About 30 seconds later, "Ok" comes up. I click on Ok and a box which I assume is where I enter the password flashes on for a split second and then disappears. I have version 1.15.02 installed. I then clicked on the arrow at the bottom of the screen and no luck either. What am I doing wrong?

As mentioned, when I tried to join my friend's game by highlighting his game and clicking Join the box to enter the password flashes on for a split second and disappears. If I wait for what seems like about a minute an OK button appears. When I click on OK the password box again appears for a split second and disappears. I then tried to host a game and picked the campaign, side and password. The challenge appears in the My Challenges window but not in the Open Challenges window.

Does this have something to with the browser I am using which is Firefox? Also I updated Java today so it that the cause of the problem because other players are obviously playing PBEM games.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Maybe try it again later after a restart?

I say this partly in case there was an issue with the PBEM server, as it does happen sometimes.

Similar to my earlier response in another thread, I suspect updating your video card driver will likely resolve the issue for you. Please let me know.

My friend had similar issues with another friend who could not join a game he was hosting. So that is three different PCs so not sure it has anything to with a video card driver. We are all running Windows 7 if that is relevant.

I have had no problems playing PBEM for Desert War 1940-42 or Field of Glory 2.

My friend was able to join the game I am hosting although again the challenge did not move from the my challenge window to the open challenge window so I wasn't sure if it had been set up.
He had the same problem as me joining my challenge but kept hitting the Windows key on the keyboard until the box where he could enter the password remained on the screen.

Hi Canuckgamer,

The reason I mentioned a video card driver update is that the window is popping up, just not showing on your screen until probably you moused over the OK button (which was not visible) and the OK button highlight and draw routine then showed the button.

It's not a common issue, but does seem to happen on some systems for some reason where the window is there, just not showing fully on your screen etc.

Another thing you could try is to run the EXE in a legacy compatibility mode to see if that helps. To do this right click on the game EXE or desktop shortcut for the game and select Properties -> Compatibility and then tick off the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and select Windows XP or perhaps even Vista to see if it might get it working for you.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm not sure if this makes sense but my friend who has been trying to host games is running two monitors. I am going to ask him to set up another challenge while running only one monitor and then see if I can join his challenge without the problems we have been experiencing.

I have three monitors and Win 10.

My friend uses Win 7 and only running one video card. I'm wondering if you are running more than one video card?

One card but the very newest AMD Radeon VII

I run 2 monitors as well and no issues on Windows 10.
