Russian Supply

Post by clausewitzclausewitz »

In all previous SC series games Russia would not provide supply to Allied units. So if an allied unit entered a Russia city with a supply of 5 the US unit had a supply of zero. It appears from a current game that I am playing that has changed in World at War? Am I correct? and seems inconsistent with Russia not sharing tech with anyone.

They will benefit from supply, but cannot operate within the USSR so it means that sending an expedition of (say) US forces into the country is unlikely to be a good thing to do.

The reason being that there can be some situations, especially in Iraq or Persia, where British and Soviet forces might need to fight together. These instances might be rare but we found with our previous release WWII: War in Europe (when this change was introduced) that the current setting worked better.

I beg to differ that Allies cannot operate in Russia. I just had a game where Axis dis not capture Sevestoplo and Allies conquered Turkey and used Sevestopol port to enter Russia. Allies has full supply from LV 12 port and ran through part of Russia to Caucuses. Likewise Allies landed at Murmansk and reestablished convoy to Russia. None of this seems realistic?

Hi Clausewitz, I believe Bill was referring to the right click option to 'Operate' which limits quick movements from town to town or even from the Russian theater back to the West if there is continuous controll etc.

Thanks for clarification but as far as the base issue of supply within Russia by allies I believe this change was a mistake. Presently there are numerous situations that seems unrealistic and promote poor playing conditions. One example is the allies can land at a Siberian port establish LV5 supply and march into Manchuria. Hardly realistic in my opinion but very real possibility in current game.

There is always a give and take with what we would like to work in game and what the outcomes might be in certain situations, and you've fairly highlighted a few here. The good news is that with the next update there will be a slight change that addresses both concerns more optimally, i.e. to still include the ability to have some supply for those situations that warrant it, but more limited to hopefully curb some of the concerns you've noted above. The solution from our end will be the same one that we've used to address the no supply situation between Japan and Germany for late in game when their areas of conquest potentially merge on the map.

Thank you for your prompt response. It is very good news that you are taking action to attempt to create a balance between players having the opportunity to be creative yet limiting those actions within realism. Thank you for your efforts! Regards,

I reviewed 1.03 notes and do not see any reference to changes regarding allied supply in Russia?

It is related to this entry:

- The USSR now has a fully uncooperative setting.

This just means that the USSR no longer provides supply as it did previously, but another change to the supply rules does mean that there is limited supply provided, which will be a maximum of 3 from a Soviet city/town to a western Allied unit.

This later change was added to address the issue of German and Japanese units entering their opposite spheres of influence and not receiving any supply at all, now they receive 3 as well.
