Better-prepared Germany scenario?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Better-prepared Germany scenario?

Post by Zoetermeer »

WITP has some fictional scenarios in which Japan starts the war "more prepared", for a game that is a bit more balanced than the stock grand campaign. Has anything similar been produced for WITE? I realize I could accomplish this with some combination of changes to the scenario settings and/or editor, but was just curious if there is anything out there made by somebody who knows better what they're doing. If I were to attempt it, I'd spend forever tweaking it.

I guess what I'm looking for is a what-if with some combination of:

- Germans start the war in full-war-economy mode, higher equipment production levels, etc.
- Germans start the war with fully-equipped panzer divisions
- Germans start the war with a better logistical story for a long, drawn-out campaign. This is a bit vague, but suppose Germany had spent the better part of the prior year planning for the campaign based on an assumption that it would be a long one

I don't know quite where the game stands in terms of balance, etc. in the stock GC. But for me personally, as a non-expert player, I sometimes want a GC that gives me a bit more leeway to make mistakes and not doom myself to failure.

The balance in this game has gone the other way: the Soviets are nerfed under the standard settings for the 41 Campaign scenario in order to give the Axis a better chance. I would like to see a scenario where the Soviets have more historical manpower levels and the Germans are given some offsetting advantages.

I would have liked to have seen a scenario where you were allowed a 'dynamic' setup, that is you can choose which hexes or zones the units start in. The Russian Campaign board game had a setup something like this. For example, its rules said "...Units with an “R” set up co-ordinate must start in Romania, “F” units must start in Finland, and other Axis units may be placed in Poland, Hungary and Romania...". This means you could choose how to weight your attack strength amongst the three Army Groups. Likewise, (although I cant remember for sure) you could do so if you were the Soviet player.

This may have allowed for some more dynamic openings both for single and multi-player. Not sure if the AI could cope with this though.

I have actually done this for a game with another player. We agreed the rules, used the editor to make the alterations and then played with this altered scenario. Of course it would be nicer if doing this was part of the main interface of the program. The scenarios that come with the program have "scripted" opening moves that would be messed about with by changing the locations of units - but for a person against a person game this is not a problem. And of course when playing user-designed scenarios you have to trust who ever did the scenario editing. So it is something you can do - although in a slightly awkward way.

It would be nice if these thoughts were bumped up to Grigsby & Co for WitE2. [:D]

I'd sure love to see your edited setups, Telemecus.
