Does age matter?

I'm not sure if it's just my imagination, but it looks like my jocks are aging. Does it really affect them after a while or are they all immortal?

Jocks are aging but we decided not to add an ageing effect. They age one month/battle.

I wouldn't mind an aging effect. I think that'd be pretty neat. It would also be kind of nice if missions in a campaign were able to specify how much time passes between one battle and the next. Even better, if upkeep for titans was paid after every battle, but only had to be paid if the titan was in a battle, but jock upkeep would be paid once a month, regardless.

I would mind. There's nothing worse than having your crack squad of elite jocks crippled by old age, especially since it takes lots and lots of battles to get them to the higher levels.

Imagine the joy when you learn that your jocks no longer gain XP, but deteriorate to the point of being useless. To me, it somehow would ruin the point of building a squad up in the first place. Why even bother with your own pilots if they're going to waste away due to reasons you have absolutely no control over?

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

I think aging could be interesting if its effects were made optional. What happens when a 90 year old jock with alzheimers tries to operate a neural based assault titan anyway?

That's a pretty funny picture!

Agreed though. Optional would be the way to go. I think your preference heavily depends on what it is about the game you enjoy. Nothing wrong with that.

So that means that my jocks could reach ages of 300+ and still be as fit as ever? Well, it is the future... everything's possible with nanotechnology.

But still, an aging effect would be cool. At age 80, they lose constitution and dexterity but gain intelligence and instinct. At age 100, they lose one stat in everything except intelligence and instinct. Every 2 years later, a random attribute drops by one. When one of the attributes reaches 0, they die of old age :D

Yeah, so maybe it'll put years of working on your squad to waste. But that's life (or death). They'll probably die from a critical to the cockpit anyway if not from old age.

might as well let your jocks get married, have kids and raise their children as uber rookie jocks.

At the age of 80 a jock has fought about 700 battles. Not very likely that this will happen at all. Lets talk about this topic in 2010 when the first jocks might hit the critical age.
