Did MWiF handle the results of the Attack on Siam correctly? Two Chinese armies had to retreat. There was a Communist army stacked next to the hex; one unit stopped there. Fine. The other unit is the problem. The only hex that the unit could retreat to was occupied by Nationalist forces. Obviously, the second unit could not stop there, as it doesn't cooperate. However, non-cooperating units may move through each other, and I don't see why the unit could not have retreated one hex past the non-cooperating units.

Is there a reason the unit could not have retreated through the Nationalist units, or was this an error?
I thought I knew how to play this game....

One unit was destroyed. Only one unit retreated.

I did read the post in the ... ¿tech support? forum about invading adjacent to the Territorial. I agree with Courtenay that the coding is not true to RaW there. However, the note in that other thread seemed to be conflating the pluses to the strength of the notional with pluses to the combat die roll against them.

A notional in the ZoC of a Territorial would get a +1 to its strength. So an empty hex adjacent to a TERR on a surprise impulse would defend with a strength of 1.

Such a notional unit would have a +1 on a land combat roll against it, as do all notional units. An attacker would not get an extra +1 as if it were attacking a TERR.

With the Palestine TERR having only one combat factor, it would defend the same vs a surprise impulse invasion - notional worth 0, attacker would receive a +1 for attacking a TERR (+2 on 2d10).

UNLESS the Palestine TERR was defending in a city on surprise. Then the notional could add 1 combat factor at defender’s option, however then the attacker would get an additional +1 for the notional. Making a total of 2 defense with a +2 on 1d10, same on 2d10 (TERR +2, notional +1, city -1).

No declarations of war.

Land: Japan
Combined: Germany
Naval: Italy

No port strikes. No naval air.

Naval Movement:

Germany:
Two U-boats sail to the North Sea (3-box, and 4-box).

Italy:
Two Submarines sail to the 2-box of Cape St. Vincent.
Two BB, one CA, and one CP, sail to the 0-box in the Western Mediterranean.
Four CA sail to the 4-box of the Italian Coast.

Axis can search in three sea areas; North Sea, CSV, and Italian Coast. Edit: Axis can search in the West Med as well, but here they can not find.

Germany begins with searching in the North Sea. Germany decline to add any air. Will CW add any air to the North Sea? CW has three planes available. ATR3 (2-box), 2 x FTR2 (1-box).

If Germany puts CW unit in Rotterdam OOS, please turn on CAP and fly Spitfire over Rotterdam during ground strike phase and return back to Dover.

After this you can turn off CAP.

The CW suffers one D and one A. What ship takes the 'D' result?

By the way. I feel robbed. So close. An Allied roll of 3 had made a huge difference. [:D]

The CA is damaged.

I assumed that the 'A' would be applied on the CA if possible. So I rolled for it. But now I realize that it isn't as clear cut as that. Therefore I suggest that we re-roll the 'A'.

What ship gets the 'A'?
