Random battle rewards

Post by Neekirul »

Is it just me, or do money totals from these things become less and less sufficient as the tonnage rises? After repairs you never seem to be left with enough to upgrade or buy new titans, let alone replace lost ones.
It seems sort of crazy to go into an evenly matched battle and expected to not only defeat the entire other team, but to also keep all of your jocks and titans alive, just to break even.

1st question: What is your managers skill ?
2nd question: What is your mechanics skill ?
3rd question: Do you try to disable enemies, not to destroy them ?
4th question: Do your jocks improve in business to reduce upkeep ?
5th question: Do you throw in some random battles against inferior enemies with more tonnage to increase salvage ?

Business, DMG. Control, and Leadership are all between 60 and 70, and spread out between three different jocks.

According to the end of battle screen I haven't utterly destroyed anything other than one of my own titans in atleast 3 battles.

I've tried doing the overkill random battles but never seem to get much of anything. My remaining titans consist of a Hitman and an Exhuminator, neither of which is capable of precision damage at the moment. The last titan I disabled was completely red at the end, aside from whichever parts got knocked off.

uh, when you said 60 or 70 spread out across three jocks... do you mean one jock with a 60 - 70 leadership for your leader, another with 60 - 70 Damage Control for your mechanic, etc, right?

because those ratings are NOT cumaltive for your entire squad. only the jock with the highest releveant skill is counted, anyone else with that skill is ignored....

Yes, thats what I meant, Iskandar.
Luckily, I guess, this has ceased to be a problem for me as the leader just got decapitated by a tesla in a random battle against an inferior opponent. Good sign to recreate the team.

It also takes time and patiente. There are 10 ranks. If you'd be able to amass loads of cash right away and buy any titan you want, the fun would be severely decreased.

Time and patience is fine, but it just doesn't seem to be much fun going through tons of overkill battles so you can actually afford to participate in something challenging.

Surving with your rookie squad in even battles is challenging IMHO.

Going through ranks is a part of the game.

strange, I too have a cash problem. but it is not from the random battles. often enough, a campaign battle or two leaves me with little cash. it is the random battles I depend on for cash. I frequently come out 100k to even close to 150k to the good.

several factors here. salvage really helps. which means not to beat the crap out of the opposing team. take out a leg, then a torso, and walk away. 95% of the time the enemy jock will eject. scan, scan, scan. that way, when you have an enemy on the ropes, you can call shot to vulnerable areas. ripping off heads (and also neutron blasters) to kill the jock inside actually gives you twin benefits. good salvage, and the bounty for killing the jock.

also, do not let your team get split up. if you have 3 Titans, getting into three seperate duels is really not the way to go. yeah, you'll win doing that, most of the time. however, the damage you sustain usually negates the money you make.

conversely, if you can, single out an enemy by its lonesome. usually, 3 or more Titans can pound the snot out of a Titan even a few hexes ahead of its fellows before reinforcements can arrive.

minimize your damage. if the enemy seems to be picking intently on one of your Titans, do what you have to do to break lock. run away, then come back.

if you have an enemy down and nearly destroyed, and you can't call shots, move everyone except one Titan away. one engine explosion can turn a winning battle into a defeat. plus the damage done can negate all the money you would otherwise earn from the battle. this is especially important against recon and light Titan's, since they more over than not lack Damage Control Systems and the pilot's generally have low Defensive skill.

Know where your enemy keeps his engine. Do not accidently blow yourself up disabling a Right Torso with an engine in it, just because the location shows up red, like I've done on several occasions (**** Fireballs).

Oddly enough, whle this game is all about blowing things up, controlled violence works much better. This game awards precision and tactics, versus an all out screaming horde attack.

Hmm... come to think of it, this game's first campaign battles are quite taxing on money and titan's. Maybe it's just my strategy, but since the fourth mission in that easiest campaign, I've been having to continually do more random battles just to get my money flow up.

The ability to play random battles did influence the design of the campaigns. The only way around this is to prohibit custom squads from playing random battles. A much worse solution IMO.

My favorite part of this game is the ability to create, build, and then utterly destroy custom squads. Would drive me mad if I were stuck with campaigns. Great design move there.
