Post by mrcmld »

I have downloaded Steel Panthers World at War 7.1 and it's a marvellous game and historical simulation,I like it very much but often after the introduction or after few seconds in the game my computer stops;it's all frozen.Sometimes this message appears on the screen:''Windows:irreversible error OE in 0028:C00140DB of VXD VMM(01)+000130DB. This occurs only with Steel Panthers World at War.What is it means? Can someone helps me please?Thank you very much. My computer is a notebook Compaq Armada E 500 with Pentium 3 900 Mhz,128 Mb Ram, video card ATI Rage Mobility 8 Mb,Windows second edition,DirectX 7.0

Hello

I think directX 8 is required for SPWaW. Also, try running the game directly from mech.exe, it often helps.

The error message didn't tell me anything, those things are usually very, very obscure.

Spwaw was first distributed with DX6.1, as I recall that is all it requires. However some of your hardware may require a more recent version of DX to match the hardware drivers.

The vm part of the error message brings to mind virtual memory. Is the swap file setting fixed or dynamic?

Is the laptop trying to go into sleep mode and having problems with saving the current state of the machine?
thanks, John.

A laptop with a P3 should have enough ram and disk space to run the game, but in the event that it doesn't due to other programs running, etc, how much do you have going on in the background?

This page http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... ;w98errmsg is always my first stop for figuring out Win 98SE error messages.
What, me worry?

What version of Window's are you running? vxd errors normally point to a video problem. I would check for updates for your operating system from www.microsoft.com, and install all critical updates and driver updates. Also you may want to get the latest and greatest video driver for you video card, which can be found at the website of the manufacturer. And the suggestion of the latest and greatest Direct X isn't a bad idea either. Good luck!

"Second Edition", by that i assume your running Win98 SE. Have you tried skipping the intro by running the mech.exe file inside the steel panthers WAW directory?

That will take you directly to the setup screen
