Minor Conflict: Part Deux Warspite1 vs Mayhemizer

Post by warspite1 »

So having resigned the first Minor Conflict, Mayhemizer and I will be embarking upon a re-match with sides swapped.

Same rules as before but without the forts optional.

House Rules:
- USSR / Japan - we are playing the normal rules and hopefully this will be coded sooner rather than later.
- No House rule in play for en-route interception.
- Night Missions TBD
- Note Combat Air Patrol is in play - although this will not be available to the Allies (personal choice)

Full list of Optionals in play:

Set-up:

Lend Lease: None

United States

2 Chits to the Germany/Italy Entry Pool
1 Chit to the Japan Entry Pool

Scrapped Units

Nothing out of the ordinary I don't think. I keep one Carrier Air fighter. I only scrap the worst TRS.

Image

Set up

Pretty standard I think:
Pacific Fleet in San Diego
Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk
Aircraft, land units and CONV split between both coasts.

No Siberians?

No, I sent the game over before that option came up. If Mayhemizer hasn't started the Italians turn then I would ask:

Infantry on shore of Caspian Sea to be swapped with a 6-4 and two units in Vlad swapped for 5-4 Siberians.

If you've moved passed this stage then don't worry about it and I'll just chalk it up to experience.

Siberians are swapped on map.

Set-up

China

No scrapping of any Chinese forces.

I decided not to defend Chengchow. This was a difficult decision. Everytime I play the Axis I get disorganised on a 3-stacker here so it was tempting to place 3 units in this city. But if the dice are favourable to the Japanese, the loss of 3 units means the gateway to the north is completely open.

Set-up

Commonwealth

I see the Italians have set out to threaten Egypt and East Africa. Sudanese, Somali and Ugandan TERR have helped the situation, but it's clear the CW are going to be under pressure. The navy concentrates on Plymouth/Gibraltar/Alexandria/Bombay. No surprises in the UK with 3 of the 4 transports sent there and the Queens in India.

Sadly no long range Blenheim, but I got a 5-strength Spitfire so that was good.

Set-up

France

No scrapping of French units.

The Italian set up seems designed to entice the French to attack - thus Italy enters the war for free and can take the battle to the British in Egypt. Suitably distracted, the French get embroiled to no effect in the south, increase Italian production, while the Germans clear up in the north.....

Let's see how this goes. Japan sets up main land forces to south.

Main fleet is in Fukuoka, few ships in Sasebo and Canton.

Why would the French ever be tempted to attack Italy? England, sometimes, yes, if they have a good port strike lined up, but France? They need every unit they've got (and some they HAVEN'T got [:)]) in the north. They aren't going significantly damage, much less conquer Italy.

I don't know, I just assumed that the light defence of the alpine border was for that purpose. Maybe that was not Mayhemizer's intention, but that was my interpretation.

Italian reserves will stop that attack before it even starts.

I’m a mind reader, they are trying to take Axis focus to south and attack Germany to align Yugoslavia. It’s good to have skill like this [;)]
