By far and away my favorite Allied ship, she sports big honking guns that have twice the penetration or more of other Allied destroyers.

For the love of all that is holy, switch out her Captain!

She is weak in ASW, and I have lost her to a starting Iboat on Dec 8th several times, so now she awaits more destroyers to get her out of port safely.

She is great with American CVs early since she has AS Radar (and a good one). She also pairs will as a surface combatant especially with other fast destroyers. Her torps work on day one, and she can launch a strong spread.

AA is quite weak however, but you can't have everything!

In Michael and I's work, we added another of these monsters to the Allied OOB and allowed for upgrades.

Yeah, a great DD, usually main brawler in light skirmishes in 1942... I love that speed...

39 night experience would be a big factor vs night time sub attacks.
Also 4000 endurance is a bit on the low side for a CV escort but should be ok while the CVs are in SOPAC.

I agree the endurance is a bit low, but you can pair her into a fresh task force for pursuit of cripples so easily!

Early on that AS radar is simply too good to give up on despite the other shortcomings: medium endurance, weak AA, and poor ASW.

Free French Navy also gets two L'Adroit class DD's in June '45. Too late to matter, but they're pretty average DD's by that stage (with abysmally low endurance).

Marceau is actually the second-best Free French leader on Dec 7th...

Two more French destroyers arrive late, and a look at potential French Captains at start. I have used both 70+ naval skill Captains depending upon tasks to be accomplished. Also used Baudouin for his high aggression but carefully.

So it turns out that there's a degree of randomization in French leader stats. Just loaded up Dec 7th, different names and values for the non-historic leaders!

I created three new games, scenario 1 and 2 and got different leaders each time.

After reading this thread, I feel horrible that I've left the DD Le Triomphant sitting in Noumea harbor in my campaign. [:(]


I've been enjoying the series of 'destroyer' threads - just goes to show how many facets there are to the game.

I put Le Fantasque, Le Terrible, and Le Main in my mod. You don't get them until after VE day though.
