RE: How is this game?
Ok so dont run the base exe file that I originally downloaded when I purchased game? Run the installer zip and extract that exe file instead correct? I think I understand now. Doing it as we speak...
RE: How is this game?
A few comments:
1) There are three things you want to do after installing the base game:
- Add the unofficial beta path. It fixes a host of problems. It installs into a different directory from the main exe, so pay careful attention to setting up the Desktop Shortcut
- Speaking of which, getting switches right can be tricky, so definitely use Korvar's Seabee to help with this.
- Update the Script AI. The base game comes with the 2007 AI, but a lot has been done since then. As you'll see from the link, there's a LOT to update, so it might be easier to update only the scenario you plan to start with (although if you move on to another one, you'll have to remember to get the update for that). This is particularly important if you are a solo player. However, if you soon plan to play PBEM, it's really optional.
2) Start with several of the smaller scenarios. You can jump into the main campaign, but even a simple one like "Aleutians" can help with the learning curve.
3) The War Room has lots of helpful threads. When questions arise, the answers can often be found there.
4) Do NOT start as Japan. It's like skipping high school football and going straight to the NFL.
Most important, don't get frustrated. There's always an answer, so enjoy the ride!

RE: How is this game?
The .exe that you downloaded when purchasing the game is probably the same file (WarinthePacificAdmiralsEdition-SetupRelease-v10079DR.exe). It's been so long since I used the original download link that it makes it difficult for me to guide you through that method. As long as the file name is what I listed, then you're good no matter which method you get it from Matrix.

Antmf_slith, the above is all good stuff. I put the line of "*********" to delineate what I've described so far and what are "next steps" beyond that.
Edit: There will be a bit of an experimental process with SeaBee to figure out exactly which combination of .exe switches will make your game run best - thus why I haven't discussed other topics such as updating the AI or scenario database files.

RE: How is this game?

RE: How is this game?
SeaBee is next - download it from HERE. There's no install process with it other than extracting the files... just run the SeaBee.exe file.
Before that, you probably want to run the game at least once using the beta .exe file, just to get a feel for how the game runs in the "default" configuration, so you'll have a baseline for comparison when you begin making the custom shortcuts.

RE: How is this game?
I dont see a sub dir names beta but when I went to run update again it said I am already updated to 1.01.26A.
RE: How is this game?
Don't run the beta installer .exe, run the "War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" file in the "Beta2" sub-directory of the game directory.

I installed base game by running the exe file, then I ran the update exe file and after running that it appeared to have updated the game but dont see a sub dir named beta in WiTP dir.

RE: How is this game?
The beta2 icon doesn't appear unless you install the "unofficial beta 1126b" patch. But don't worry about that patch. Just get up and running with the "official beta 1126a" first....GP

RE: How is this game?
I ran a quick test, and if you download the beta patch from the link I posted earlier AND install it into your "War in the Pacific Admiral Edition" root folder, it definitely creates a folder called Beta2.
As to your earlier query on map mods - don't worry about that now, as most of them can be swapped in and out during a campaign. For example, I've used three different mods in my current campaign.

RE: How is this game?
There is no "update.exe" - only one installer for the base game (WarinthePacificAdmiralsEdition-SetupRelease-v10079DR.exe) and one installer for the beta update (WarinthePacificAdmiralsEdition-UpdateComp-v1126a.exe).
You should have gone through one install process and one separate update process which have windows that look like this:

Edit: these are the two files that you downloaded from the Matrix member's page (they come as .zip files that you have to unzip before running them).

I did run the beta.exe ( WarinthePacificAdmiralsEdition-UpdateComp-v1126a.exe) file and it appeared to have updtaed the base game but I do not see any sub dir named beta after I ran patch... Am I supposed to run game first then exit out?
RE: How is this game?
When you launch the game you should have a version number in the upper right corner of the display. What does it say?....GP

RE: How is this game?
If you see this screen when you run the WarinthePacificAdmiralsEdition-UpdateComp-v1126a.exe file (hit the "Next" button once), you should have the Beta2 subdirectory:

The 3rd folder down from the top - don't worry if you don't have all the folders/files I do, I've installed extra stuff that you won't have yet

Antmf_slith, I'll need to step away for awhile... the other gents here can help you in the meantime, and I'll return as soon as possible to help if any is needed at that point. [:)]

1.811.26a is the version I have running now but it seems it did not install it to a beta dir. It is the main exe file.

RE: How is this game?
One very, very simple method to deal with the Beta update creating a subfolder with the beta executable is to move, or copy the beta executable into the root game folder replacing the original executable.
That way you don't have to repath your desktop shortcut to the beta folder.

If you click on the WITPAE desktop icon and the game starts up and runs, then your good. All you need to do now is install SeeBee per the directions and setup your switches. It may take several tries to get the switches working right....GP
